Lovely Restaurant, Excellent Food, Great Ambiance
I am a super picky eater. I was not interested in the usual Mexican dining selections such as tacos, carne de res, etc I asked if I could order from the breakfast menu. Yes! I got the best omelette full of mushrooms and avocado! Delicious!!!

Just across the church, but I think it is called Paulinos.... the kale tamales (tamales de acelga) are the best. There are mostly kale with some cheese in the centre... I hope to bring some home for the freezer on the next visit here.

We had great machito (offal mixed with potato into a roll and roasted) here, the best we've had in Tapalpa so far. The borrego (lamb) was tasty, but a little dry. We also had quail (cordoniz) which was also very tasty. There were mariachis playing throughout lunch, and the place was packed. If you want the country experience, this is a good place to visit. Very family friendly too.

i just wrote a review of las girasoles, which was terrible, so we got in the car and drove about 2 miles out of town and stopped at la perita on the right hand side; ordered chicken and it was great, very nice honey barbecue sauce, highly recommend this place for its fast service and friendly attitude.
And it was half the price of Las girasoles.

Myself and my friends had a very bad experience at this restaurant. It was empty when we went, which maybe should have told us something. The appetizers we had were very nice, including the morongo - a blood sausage dish. However, the service, by a child who did not appear to be more than 12, was extremely lacking. If we had a question about a dish, she couldn't answer it and appeared to be pretty much monosyllabic in general, even though one of my friends is Mexican and has no issues with Spanish. One of our party ordered lamb, which struggled to be classified as ok but nothing more. Myself and another friend ordered the rabbit, which is why we had gone to the restaurant in the first place. Precisely when the rabbit had been cooked was anybody's guess, 'that day' not featuring in any realistic scenario. It was quite simply stone cold, rock solid and hence to all intents and purposes, inedible. As a main dish it was extremely expensive for something one could not eat, or perhaps more accurately, for the salad and beans which were the only edible elements. We then, perhaps rather recklessly, decided to hazard a desert. The monosyllabic child waitress was unable to tell us precisely what the desert was, other than apricots, which we could already see from the menu. Nonetheless we decided to risk it, and in short order a small plate piled high with what appeared to be jam appeared. Despite the presentation being disastrous it was in fact surprisingly rather nice, particularly with the accompanying cream. While our experience at this establishment did not precisely ruin our day out it was a huge disappointment as we had so much looked forward to a delicious meal, and what we received quite frankly was a disaster, and an expensive one at that. Please do yourselves a favour and avoid this place. Go to a taqueria instead, but if this is the last place in town open, don't eat there.

A Fonda is a place to eat. Doña Pina's is near the main plaza on the street above it. The food is quite good and very inexpensive. I particularly like the sopes, which are small tortillas with meat or beans with lettuce and some cheese on top. Six of them are maybe 40 pesos. There might be a special of the day. It is definitely a restaurant that caters to locals and is very popular. Hours are 8:30am to 9:30pm Mon through Sat and until 6:00pm on Sundays.

Tambien encontraras baguettes y hamburguesas tipo gourmet hechos con pan artesanal y con ingredientes mayormente locales. Contamos tambien con desayunos: tradicionales chilaquiles, omelettes, pan frances artesanal, fruta y jugos. Tenemos servicio de bar, cerveza, vino de mesa y bebidas preparadas. Postres, crepas, bocadillos y muchas cosas mas que te encataran!
Madre Tierra is basically a cafeteria. As you can imagine they serve all kind of hot and cold beverages like tea, coffee, chocolate, etc.
As you can expect from a coffee shop, they have "easy dishes" for food, hamburgers, french fries, baguettes, salads and so on.
You might think those dishes are more like snacks instead of proper food, but the people in Madre Tierra certainly know how to improve this apparently simple dishes.
They have a grate grate taste. My wife and I ordered first some nachos, prepared with chopped jalapenos, tomatoes and onions. This Mexican sauce added a lot of flavor to a simple nachos with cheese.
For main dish I ordered a hamburger and my wife had a chicken baguette. both of them were very very tasty, specially the hamburger, the chicken baguette was just a little dry, nothing that cannot be fixed adding some ketchup or sauce.
At the end we also had a coffee and a hot chocolate while we were watching some fireworks on the town's square.
You get a nice meal for a fair price and plus the place is located a few meters away from the town's square.
It' very recommended you should give it a try.

Arrive hungry and this place was the only place in town with any activity so decided to try it. Next time we will try someplace else......food was marginal....service just OK.
