Balaw Balaw Restraurant and Art Gallery

Reviewed By Lina E - Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

This restuarant is overrated. It offers exotic food such as ants soup and snails but the other main dishes tasteless. The rice was fine and a  soup made with cow testicles and snails was ok the duck was bony and tasteless. The only interesting thing about this restuarant is the art collection in the second and third floor including alcohol
In a jar with a snake.

Max's Restaurant

Reviewed By CoreBi - Antipolo City, Philippines

Longtime patrons here, and more likely to keep coming back since it opened. All the staff are friendly – the friendliest among the other Max’s restaurants I’ve visited, actually (and trust me, I’ve been to a lot of branches because my parents love their food) – and attentive to the needs of their customers.
The food from the classic menu has always been good, and from time to time maybe they made mistakes in taste or servings with some food experiments through the years, like the Gambas in Aligue – it’s great but the shrimps have shrunk for some reason. The servings have also gotten smaller, which is a bit sad considering its history. The quick meals they offered in recent years were my folks’ favorite when they simply wanted to dine out instead of cooking and staying in – you know, delicious and affordable food that doesn’t break the pocket nor indulge in the unhealthiness of fast food. The budget meals get you through those kinds of days.
The staff, I guess mostly the new recruits, can be told to relax when it’s the busy days. The new recruits seem to amusingly panic with the sudden influx of people, and they’ll usually be huddled in one side trying to ask each other what they have to do. Problem with that is there are now more new recruits than the “veterans”, so when they’re now in a panic, many of the other customers feel ignored and it holds up waiting crowds. Get a bit too noisy, too, when it’s like that. Maybe longer training sessions before putting them in the branches?
Our favorite staff member? Mang Arman! Too bad he’s already retired.

Crescent Moon Cafe

Reviewed By GranDia

With a koi pond and a small Fountain surrounded by trees, shrubs, and palms, this place is an oasis considering the noise and traffic just a few meters away. The place has a pottery shop and they sell some interesting and practical pieces like mugs, bowls and plates.
Sundays they serve buffet. Outstanding among the dishes is their pumpkin soup and the salad. The salad is served using alagao leaves which you use to wrap other condiments including a good shrimp sauce. The fish served is grilled with a special eggplant pâté. The vegetable served was a curried mixture of potato, eggplant, and others. Good dish.
In spite of all these, the buffet price of P600 is a bit steep. I guess if they added a couple more dishes or maybe throw in the first drink free, this perception may change. Another suggestion is for them to stock on wines and spirits. This could put them at par with other P600 per person buffet venues in the area. This is what keeps me from giving this place a 4.
On the other hand, I will definitely come back to this oasis in Antipolo. Courteous service, great ambience, and good food.

We stopped here for a late lunch after a day at the Daranak Falls and other sights in the area. Clean, simple, and great food. They give you fresh chillis to mash up, and thy pack a punch.
Try the Sinigang Bullalo. Depth of flavour in the soup, huge chunk of meat, one of the best Bullalos that I have ever had. We couldn't finish it and took the left-overs home.
Also recommended by my companions: Chicken Inasal, Bangus and the Sotanhon.

First time to eat here with my family and husband's family (with a foreigner) and we all liked the food and the ambiance. Though it's quite dark already when we were there, we're able to see that the place is indeed good for dining.

This is located in the Robinson shopping mall. We dropped in on a Saturday afternoon about 3.00pm as a group of 9. Not quite empty.
We all had Halo Halo which was good. Service was cheerful and quick. Very clean. They don't take care payment.
Will go back as their menu looks interesting. Variations on the usual themes.

Paseo Rizal offers delicious filipino foods and among their top on the list menu is the vegies, the soup and the native delicacies. The view is awesome since its overlooking sierra madre . The place is not airconditioned as the weather in the area is native cool. Before dining at the second floor, you will be passing their arts room, located near the stairs w/c some are offered for sale. You may take the table near the wide windows to have a look in the outside view. Their is also a piano besides the dining area and accordingly they have folk singers on weekends and during peak season.

Bulalo was blah, pansit too salty, the tokwa kare-kare was blah - but hey, we were tired and hungry after a 4-hour hike that ended at noontime! And anything with hot white rice and ice-cold Coke is good! So we could be eating here again. :)
And the dogs were beautiful. 3 huge frisky retrievers and 3 Labrador pups.
And did I say the views were great?
