Hi,
Set at a mountain pass approx 10km above the small town of Szczyrk this long established eating house offers a warm welcome, tasty food & shelter from the cold.
It is located at White Cross (Bialy Krzyz) which is a popular small ski slope mostly suited to beginners and families with young children, there are much more advanced blue & red slopes a short walk down the hill. As there is only this restaurant and a small cafe opposite it is often busy serving from breakfast to evening meal and closing at approx 18:30.
Being family run nothing seems too much bother for the kind owner, for example they can split the kids meal between 2 wee ones as the serving is quite big. The menu is simple traditional Polish Mountain fare, you can choose from soups, mainly pork main courses also with chicken. One quirky option is to order some sausages / meat and cook it by yourself on long metal forks available beside the centrepiece open fire.
The food is very tasty with ample portions with nuggets and chips etc available for the children. The most expensive main course comes in at less than 25 ZLT (approx £5 STG) which is great value and typical for this mountain region. Hot wine / beer are served to heat your bones with only one red table wine being available, though if you drink Vodka the choice is vast!
The decor is very old and traditional and oozes character with a homely feel and beautiful woodwork features throughout.
The staff, especially the owner chap could not be more helpful, he also has very good English and a great grasp of hospitality.
Just next door is very smart self catering accommodation by the name of Gazdowka which is run by the same family. I have stayed here in the past and can highly recommend it, especially the full board option with breakfast and two course evening meal being served in the restaurant. The evening meal can even be claimed as lunch should you wish to visit one of the many restaurants in Szczyrk centre. I have even steered my friend Molly to this venue in March as I know she will be well looked after.
The ski hire shop and lift pass are just opposite serving the small slope with 25 'lifts' on the small slope costing approx £7.00
Well worth a visit,
Enjoy.

The menu features 4 kinds of cuisines, Spanish, Italian, Greek and Polish góralska food. Identity crisis in the making? We had albondigas soup and kwaśnica for starters, steamed salmon and tortilla for mains. The soups were ok, although the albondigas tasted more like onion soup (which also happens to be on the menu, surprise?). The salmon was alright, but the potatoes dry and a bit greasy for my taste. The tortilla was kind of strangely made with pekinska cabbage. All in all a forgettable experience, compounded by the fact that we both had a case of the runs afterward (sorry, we can both handle different kinds of food and cuisines, do not have delicate stomachs, so I blame old oil and dirty pans). Not recommended as far as I am concerned.

We had zurek and kwasnica for starters, salmon for mains along with selected teas. The soup was nothing special really, basically my zurek tasted like a simple cream soup. The salmon was full of bones and a bit tasteless. Nice spinach on the side, but with greasy potato slices. Can't say I'm excited about this place, even with the wooden mountain ambiance.

It looks nice, it smells not that good it has very good service, but the food is poissonous and I mean it. Food that was served to my partner and I was undercooked and then put into microwave or some sort of warm up so it never had a chance to be eatable (it was lamb with bone) I was sick for 3 days doctors involved not much more to say.

We were here for a memorable wedding reception and returned the following night for dinner - we had a couple of pork knuckles from the menu, which were both huge, exceptionally well-cooked and succulent, along with the tray of mustards, all excellent. The Kasztelan beer on draft was tasty, cold and cheap. Service friendly and very efficient, and the atmosphere was cosy and charming, with lots of bare wood and sheepskin rugs to sit on. Would love to go back on an emptier stomach some day soon.

This restaurant looks rather dark and gloomy as you walk through the door , just as you've gone past the 'Smoker'...Where they smoke their own produce.. The first area you come across is the bar area, which is well stocked with locally made vodka with various flavours and alcoholic strength. ....We were warmly welcomed to a very traditional mountain type dining room and given a menu full of traditional dishes... I opted for a starter of Zurek, which is a filling and tasty soup made with fermented Rye, potatoes, Polish sausage. ...With a boiled egg dropped in for good measure. ..l had a lovely steak dish with a mushroom sauce for main, which was excellent. .Polish restaurants always serve a separate salad dish of maybe carrot, sauerkraut, and often celeriac .....The staff here are very friendly and the service was excellent. ..We were even given a small bottle of the local vodka they produce ...☺

Truly magical place! Not only for your tummy but also for the artistic mind. Place is finished with unique photographs from the past, memorising historical moments in the world. Pierogi are always made to order, never frozen and absolutely delicious. Portions are huge, but dont worry, if cant finish, they will pack them for you - how great is it?

Świetna,lużna atmosfera.Miejsce z klimatem i rewelacyjną obsługą, przepysznym jedzeniem ( zapiekanki obłędne, hamburgery przepyszne ) i konkretnymi drinkami. Wszystko w super dobranej muzycznej oprawie i w pogodnej atmosferze.

For a coffee lover it is like an oasis in the middle of a vast desert. Great coffee, way better than anything you can get in Szczyrk except maybe in Klimczok hotel. I especially recommend the NPF - stronger than espresso - and milk coffees....MoreThank you for Your recommendation! Little correction: We also have everyday fresh home made cakes - cheese cake and apple pie. But sometimes at the end of day they are out.
