Sulmona (Latin: Sulmo; Greek: Σουλμῶν, Soulmōn) is a city and comune of the province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo, Italy. It is located in the Valle Peligna, a plateau once occupied by a lake that disappeared in prehistoric times. In the ancient era, it was one of the most important cities of the Paeligni and is known for being the native town of Ovid of whom there is a bronze statue in the Piazza XX Settembre, located on the town's main road which is named after him.

The atmosphere is lovely and the food is incredible. There were many people there on the Saturday so if you go on the weekend you may be best to reserve a table. The waiters are excellent and can speak English but don't be tempted to think this could be a restaurant for foreigners only - it was full of Italians on the day we went so this meant to me that the food would be good! Ask the waiter to recommend a local wine to complement your meal . There were three soups available on the day (mushroom pumpkin and bean soups ) and all were exceptional . I would definitely recommend this and will come
Back for sure

Wine bar with open kitchen that accompanies the wines from Abruzzo we are not a restaurant but ... the alternative to the restaurant, the menu with the right choice of typical Abruzzese quality products !
We arrived early (for Italian dinner times), around 8pm, and were the first there. They were fully booked but quickly laid up an extra table for us outside, which we really appreciated. The waiter/manager(?) was friendly and very patient with our poor Italian, though he refused to serve my friend lemonade with her beer because he said it was horrible. The menu isn't extensive, and a local friend said it wasn't as good as usual, particularly as they didn't have any fish options that evening. We didn't fancy anything from the Secondi menu so just ordered Primis- but they were a really good portion so certainly enough for a main meal. I really enjoyed my Carbonara, though another friend found it too rich. The Gnocchi was nice, if a little bland. We had sides of seasonal vegetables, which were tasty. On the whole half of us really enjoyed our meal and the other half a were bit disappointed, with our local friend saying it wasn't as good as usual.

The garden setting of the restaurant is fantastic and would have been very calming (except is was a very hot night and no breeze coming through the plants). The pizza was great and the gnocchiletta was very good. Prices are also reasonable. Service was fantastic and very quick.

Very interesting place with a scent of medieval spirit. Food is average - good quality, but some esenciall small errors like potatoes were drown in oil during roasting.
Good place for people loving heavy meat food and Abruzzian cuisine.
Service was quick and good, but overseeing small items, like too warm white wine.
Over all good place.

Not impressed with this restaurant. The restauant itself is drab and not very welcoming, the staff condescending and the food very ordinary.

Closed Sunday evenings and Mondays
We had a superb meal here. Everything was freshly prepared and delicious and we got by with my badly spoken italian and the delightful waitress's broken English. The restaurant was fairly busy with couples and families tucking in with gusto. Would definitely recommend. I would have happily eaten here every night.

Interesting place to go. Nice location, and well laid out restaurant. If you want to know what you are going to eat before you get it, do not bother going here!
The host was interesting and entertaining.it resulted in us paying morecforvthe meal than we would normally want to. Feltva bit like he could see you coming as a foreigner and would boost his sales without your approval.
The unknown dishes kept coming, and were tasty, but doing this you have no idea when your
courses start and end.

Gelateria la Rotonda is located near Piazza Garibaldi and the aqueduct . This is seriously really good gelato, it is always busy, with queues. It is rare I will queue for anything, but for this, you bet. Lots of flavours to choose from. Very vibrant area.
Join the locals on the steps of La Rotonda, an arched portal with a 16th century fresco and eat gelato. The portal is part of the Church of San Francesco della Scarpa. When you have finished your gelato, you might just have to check out that other flavour you couldn't decide on and have another and another.......

I recently was in Sulmona and had gelato (more than once) at Di Silvio Gelateria. The gelato was creamy and delicious, the favors were so fresh....what a delight! And the owner was so friendly and enjoyable to talk to. Put it on your list of places to eat in Sulmona!
