Opened in 2004, Brechin's On Bridgend Street serves excellent meals using quality local ingredients. We serve home made desserts and daily home baking, plus a range of coffee, tea and good quality wines by the glass and the bottle. We offer themed music events with meals at lunchtimes and evenings. Check our web site for details. Our musical instrument and accessory business, Gypsy Guitars, also display instruments and useful accessories for the guitarists amongst you. We also have a mail order business if you cannot drop in to see us!
We found it by accident and were fascinated by this music themed cafe - sheet music and instruments on the walls. Excellent home made food. Friendly and welcoming owners involved in the local music scene. Felt at home and could have stayed for ages. The food was tepid and the rice seemed second hand. The crispy duck came with a bamboo steamer and the pancakes were inexplicably still in their plastic packaging?? What was that about? We were the only table in the restaurant, so I don't know why the scoff was so cold. The house white was fine and the service was attentive. But jings the food was expensive and pretty grim.

Bistro Restaurant
A great venue for a drink or a meal. Great service and staff and a lovely meal in a nicely presented bar area

Lovely location in Port Bannatyne. Simple fare but nicely served and all in all very welcoming. Large groups of walkers and cyclists use this place so for smaller parties it could feel quite intimidating if you h T it at the wrong time. But cyclists and walkers have a reputation for choosing places which serve good food, so their patronage speaks for itself. Definitely will be back.

Arrived with a coach tour but the cafe didn't get swamped - perhaps because it was a lovely warm sunny day and plenty of people spilled out into the open courtyard which had plenty of Seating. Reasonable amount of soup in a large bowl and quite tasty. Good range of scones and cakes on display. The gents toilet has recently been modernised to a very reasonable, tasteful standard and was spotlessly clean.

Fantastic situation beside a beautiful white sandy beach looking over to Arran , Cowal & the Mull of Kintyre Friendly helpful staff, great mix of dishes and really good value. Great spot in a great location- could stay all day but only open 10-5pm
Took a walk to ettrick bay today & yet again had a fantastic lunch at the tea room.
Always get a brilliant portion & every visit to the island, we look forward to a trip to the ettrick bay tea room.
Value is outstanding, home fries to die for & cakes!!!! Try the meringue pies.

Don't judge this place by outside. Went here for dinner around 6ish and had the cheeseburger for 8.95, with the option of adding haggis for an extra pound. The burger was delicious as was the haggis and chips were homemade. The staff were very friendly...MoreThank you we're pleased you enjoyed your meal & I will pass your comments onto the staff, we look forward to seeing you again.

We went here for dinner while visiting the island, after Reading lots of positive reviews on trip advisor however we left feeling very unimpressed.
We didn't book as our mobile phones had no signal at the cottage we were staying at. We arrived just after six and were not acknowledged by any of the staff. I grabbed a menu and the attention of the staff and they pointed at the only table they had available.
I then had to go and fetch another menu as none were brought to the table. The waitress was fairly quick to take a drinks order however that was about the only time the service seemed efficient.
We ordered the lamb which was a generous portion size, which was a good thing considering how long it too for our food order and food to finally arrive, we were pretty hungry bu this point.
What was disappointing was that after we finished our food we were left for approximately 25mins with our plates on front of us,with no staff either taking them away, asking if we needed more drinks or offer a dessert menu when we had clearly finished.
I eventually had to go to the bar to ask for the bill. I feel like the customer service needed a lot of work. Being tourists to the area I would have hoped for a better service than this but the staff didn't seem to really care nor were they particularly friendly so although the food was good I wouldn't recommend this place to friends.
If you want to keep outsiders coming in I would consider being aware of all your customers.
So the postives were the food size and being able to get a table on a Saturday night without booking, but the negetives just made me want to get out of there, even though I originally was going to order dessert!
