Ravenna once was the capital of the Byzantine Empire in Italy, and it still has amazing mosaics recalling that heritage. Also make sure you visit Dante's tomb, as well as the little pile of rubble where local residents hid his urn during WWII to prevent it from being damaged.

The atmosphere is as sophisticated as an old 40's black and white movie, but at the same time, as inviting, creative and warm as a contemporary New York restaurant. The cuisine, with meat and fish specialities, is characterised by a tradition which has been reinterpreted in an exquisitely creative manner. In addition to the air-conditioned interiors, in summertime one can dine on the outside Terrace. The Owner, Sante Milandri has been a restaurant owner since 1982. In 1998 he left "Bistrot Clardge" in Cesenatico (one of the first restaurants on the Riviera to focus on a refined clientele, as well as a younger one) and he moved to Ravenna where he set up the Spasso Bistro. The interior designer and co-owner of the Alexander restaurant carried out the refurbishment work in full respect of the history of the building. The first reports dating back to 1840 when it was used as a residence and later like restaurant. The Seating capacity is sixty in what was once the stalls and a further forty seats are available in the circle.
First of all - this is sympathetic review and knowing North American and European culture equally, let me make a US statement first: This is a must-go place in Ravenna and for East/West coast comparisons of price and value - you will not pay more than for a decent fine dining evening in the US. Read my lips: A must go.
Now I put on my German perfection hat: The chef's greeting was missing something. I cant't tell you what (I am not a chef) but something was missing. Maybe pinoli.
The primo piatto (Pasta con Anatra / Pasta with duck) was amazing. Here the only thing that must be improved is optics: Color in color. Something green was missing. And I am only saying this because of one other review suggesting a Michelin star for the restaurant. A Michelin star is a tough thing to get and dish optics is not to be neglected,
The second dish - lamb with some potato 'cylinders' was great but not perfect. The lamb was not subtly enhanced by some accompanying taste, Again, I am talking about what is missing for a Michelin star,
So visitors to Ravenna - please enjoy this place, it is a great restaurants. Michelin testers: Please come by in say 4-5 months from now.

Just outside the city walls this restaurant is an easy stroll from the centre. It exudes tradition and classy assurance, the decor is a trifle baroque but agreeable. The menu is broad and there is something for everyone. My mozzarella in carozza was a wonderful main course, his carpaccio of swordfish unusual and stylish. Service was cool but efficient. The owner was obviously keeping a watching eye as he circulated round the tables. This is probably one of the best places in Ravenna, we will go back.

Today, from an idea of Stefano, Raffaele, Serena, Marco, Luciano, Matteo; at Our passion and from Our experiences the "Cabiria Wine Bar", while maintaining its tradition, has expanded in the proposal, giving life to his restaurant "Court Cabiria." Context elegant, fresh, dynamic ... A place where the welcome and friendliness are the predominant notes, a quiet corner in the heart of Ravenna where history tradition and modernity come together offering moments of deep harmony. The products of the land and sea are skillfully combined in a creative way.
Popped in for lunch today, a tiny bit out of the way but minutes from piazza Polopo so assume the locals will know it well. Super service, waitress spoke very good English and menu in English too....not being an Anglophile but some of the ingredients unusual so good to know what they were. Amuse bouches delightful especially the macaron with pistachio. Almost too full for the next course, but managed (between two) a mixed ham/ goats cheese starter then tagliatelli with pheasant and pork neck with a lovely aniseed taste. Quite unusual but delicious. Portions generous, quality excellent and a really nice twist on some familiar ingredients, we found very good value, and a great wine list too.

This place seems to me to be a family run place. Just a short walk of the square, worth the walk.
Ate here with my family this past summer and we had a very enjoyable dinner. My son and I started off with the cold cuts plate which was enormous. My wife had the fried zucchini flowers, which was unique. For my second I had the tagliata manzo al forno which was outstanding.
Service was friendly and professional, and the language was no problem. Highly recommended.

What a find! We researched this place on trip advisor whilst planning our Italian motorbike trip. However when we arrived at our hotel were ecstatic when we found out it was on the same street!! The food and service is exceptional. The owner Ale was so friendly and helped us choose what to eat. We could tell he was passionate about his food and it showed! We stopped late afternoon for a snack and ended up going back just before he closed for more! We tried the classic piadina (Italian flatbread) which is a traditional local cuisine and also 2 other variations which were a kind of wrap and a Sandwich of sorts. We even had a desert which was a piadina filled with Nutella! Yummy :) the Parma ham was the best we have ever tasted and all the ingredients were lovely quality and so fresh. This place is a little Gem and a must when visiting this charming town.

good food with the great atmosphear of being in Mexico. You get lots of food and they make it all by them selves... Open from 18 - 22 monday - sunday. The resturant is small, so if you're many people eating togehter you should prebook. And be aware that if you're driving i to Ravenna - that there are surten streets with traffic limiteds so you have to drive around - best way is past the tomb and strait on...use og GPRS is useful ;-) Bon apetit!

Enjoyed our introduction to piadina. Not really knowing what to expect, we watched Stefano prepare the flatbread after our order, add the fillings, and then finish the cooking. As Stefano finished up we had the revelation that we were basically having an Italian quesadilla. After we received our order, we ate along side the stand in the shade. Nice assortment of fillings and beverages. The stand is located close to the Tomb of Theodric.
