We were specifically looking for a seafood restaurant to try out any fresh catch of the day in town. We read through the TA reviews of the more fancy and expensive restaurants but often they came with mixed reviews. We passed by Al Pairo earlier and thought to give it a try. Not disappointed at all! We had brotola a la plancha (panfried) and a la vasca (tomato and garlic sauce) and both came out nicely done. Simple yet tasty. With a glass of wine and a soda, total $26 with tips. Very reasonable price and very glad we stopped by. Service was prompt too. Credit card accepted.

The restaurant was beautiful decorated and comfortable for couples mostly, only 9 tables but also have tables outside on a deck on the sand. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere very causal and sort of romantic looking at the sunset.

After coming across a ton of rave reviews of Panes y Peces online, I was excited to try the restaurant out. I even walked from one end of town to the other to get to Panes y Peces. Sure, the food was delicious, the service decent and the ambience nice, but hardly enough to write home about. I've dined at better middle-class restaurants across South America.
I know everything is expensive in Uruguay during summer so I was expecting the bill when it arrived. I am just saying that the prices of the dishes do not justify the portion size or quality. The banana flambé with ice cream (USD7) was a skinny little banana sliced into half and served with the tiniest scoop of ice cream. My main, the grilled fish was served with roast potatoes that were dry and rather tasteless. And the bread basket was not accompanied by olive oil or butter. Condiments like salt and pepper were also not laid out on the tables.
Overall, while promising and probably one of the better restaurants in town, it could've been a better meal. You're not missing out on anything even if you don't get to try Panes y Peces.

Great chipirones, excelent wine! BUT, such bland entree... No seasoning.. good service though.. put the season from the chipirones in the rest of the dishes! ;)

especialidad en mariscos y pescados frente al mar con musica en vivo y buenos tragos En el corazon del pueblo
This is a gem especially if you go when there is a full moon. This funky little place is by the seaside and serves fresh fish in large quantities. Go for a meal or a drink and relax. Prices are reasonable and service is very good. On Saturday evening there is usually a live band. It really is "zero stress" like every thing else in Punta del Diablo.

Since Dec 2010 Arrai Beach Bar is definitely a meeting point in Punta del Diablo. Its panoramic Terrace offers the best view towards the hill of the Fishermen, the rocky point and the hill of the Rivero simultaneously. A simple menu with original dishes, made with fresh products accompany this wonderful environment. Arrai means fish in Basque, summarizes the main characteristics of this place, highlights the owners' Basque descent, a rich menu of seafood and the history of the fishing village. The musical selections and their live shows stand out above the rest. Spanish, English and Portugues is spoken
Great food and drinks! We had fish and salat, perfect. Good view! Lovely hosts aswell, even the music was good.
