This iconic restaurant has been a place for people to meet and celebrate since 1982. The teamwork and the personal attentions of José María make it a gastronomic benchmark for the people of Segovia, as well as for visitors from all continents, including renowned figures from politics, culture, science and the media, both from Spain and abroad.
Jose′ Maria Restaurante is highly recommended for anyone spending a night in beautiful Segovia. it is located off the Plaza mayor, roughly equidistant between the incredible roman aqueduct and the beautiful Alcazar Castle. The restaurante specializes in roast suckling pig but has a full menu....MoreDear client, Thank you for your appreciation for our restaurant. Yours faithfully

Michelin star Worthy food in this restaurant! We had the "walk through the forest" menu and some dishes even made you think of the forest by its smell only! 10 delicious dishes including wine for 84 euro / pers. for sure the best restaurant in Segovia!

I was on a short trip in Segovia, and my hotel recommended this place. We arrived at 14.00 hrs without reservation -- and were lucky to have a table in the bar. Immediately the table was cleaned, laid out with linen and serviettes. We opted for the set menu for two that serves a whole lamb leg, cooked in the open wood oven and cut & served at the table. As a dessert we had a local sweet, which was very tasty.
On this Saturday before Christmas the bar soon was packed, and when we left people were waiting for a table. The vibes here are good. Waiters dressed in white and attentive, but a congenial atmosphere.
We left completely happy!

After walking around Segovia all morning we searched for a local place and found this little restaurant thanks to TripAdvisor. It was a tiny place along a narrow street about a 10 minute walk from the Cathedral. It was a typical Spanish restaurant frequented by locals and tourists alike. There were only 7 little tables but everything was immaculate. We tried the local roasted suckling pig sopa a la castellana fresh salad and great arroz con leche. Lunch was reasonable and the service was impeccable. Thank you TripAdvisor!

The restaurant is not located along one of the main tourist routes. Yet, it is a simple detour from a trip to the wineries near Penafiel to find this heaven on earth of roasted baby lamb. The unpretentious local is always full of a clientele from far away places. They just drive to this dusty town of Sacramenia to enjoy the tenderest best tasting lamb we have enjoyed including several "asadores" in Aranda or Segovia capital. It is recommended to zero on the lamb and the house salad since the lamb portions are huge and the accompanying bread and house wine quite filling. As it is to be expected on a high volume place with reasonable prices the service is not sophisticated but gets the job done efficiently. It is not a romantic setting but a good enjoyment of a fantastic baby lamb cooked to perfection in a wood fired oven. If you travel by car and are a foodie this is the place to stop while visiting the Duero wine region and even taking a few pictures of the amazing castle at Penafiel. That does not take much effort since it is perched in a hill with many easy shots from any angle.

At first we chose this restaurant because California Bar was fully booked. We didn't realise the menu itself was actually quite pricey, or maybe because restaurants in Segovia are slightly more pricier than the ones in Madrid. However we had no regrets in visiting this restaurant, because the quality of the food was worth it. We ordered the Suckling Segovia Pig, as this was recommend dish when visiting Segovia. The skin was crispy and golden, with a slight saltiness to it, the meat itself was extremely succulent. I would also recommend the octopus, fresh and delicious.

Very warm welcome, felt at home from the start, very cozy atmosphere. Really good quality in all ingredients, good seasonal recommendations off the carte, and a nice variety of dishes in the menu from the more traditional ones of the area. Very well chosen with good value for money wine list. All in all a great choice if you are in the area.

A garden salad so heavily salted it was inedible. Cod which was delicious cooked in an awful sauce. Ice cream nothing to write home about. A bottle of reasonable Rioja. The bill : €67 for two. Disgraceful.

Built in the 16th centuries and beautifully restored this is a wonderful place to try the cooking of the Spanish Sierras. Roast Suckling Pig or Roast Lamb. Take your pick. Very interesting fresh roasted vegetables. Great desserts. Excellent wine. Afterwards you'll need to walk ourside and look at the snow up on the mountain tops and see the flowers starting to bloom in April and just walk to digest the magnificent meal.

We just had suckling pig at California Bar Restaurant. It was the most moist, tender piece of meat I have ever had! We also had this amazing Greek salad! It was not the traditional Greek salad from the states, but an amazing combination of sliced tomatoes, smoked salmon, nuts and balsamic vinegar drizzle. Make sure you make a reservation. You will need it!
