Wicked food especially the chow mein. Slow service but worth it! If you like a fancy atmosphere and fast service, keep looking. You want really good quality Chinese at reasonable prices ($11 for s&s pork) this place is Ponoka's true gem.

Loved it! I had the Bison Burger which was very generously portioned (read: huge) with their Cream of Broccoli soup. My wife had their innovative (and delicious!) gluten-free Yamburger. We'll need to go back some time and try their desserts, which look amazing.

I always try to find a new restaurant when I visit customers in a different town but none of the ones I saw on TripAdvisor for Ponoka appealed to me. It seems that they were either pizza, Chinese or fast food.
I prefer a Sandwich or lighter meal so I thought I would take a drive through downtown and see if there was a Sandwich shop. I saw the sign that said Coffee Hut and parked. I wasn’t sure if they served food until I saw the small sign on the sidewalk that said they served full meals. It didn’t look fancy but I’m OK with that. I went in. There was Seating for about 30 people and it was nearly full.
Although they should have a sign that said “Please be seated” I wasn’t sure if I needed to order at the counter so I walked up and asked. The lady said that it was full serve so I sat down. She brought me a menu that was mainly hamburgers, sandwiches and salads. The soup of the day was Cabbage Soup so I ordered that with a Garden Salad. Although they didn’t have wifi I was able to scam a signal from a neighbouring business to read the news while I waited for my meal. The soup arrived and it was excellent! Nice and hot, lots of hamburger and very rich with flavours. She brought my salad a few minutes later and when I dug into it I found that it was nice and crispy, sliced fine and with a good variety of veggies. The food had passed the test and so did the service. The place was nice and clean even though it looked a little rough on the outside. It just goes to prove “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”
If you are ever in Ponoka and looking for a Sandwich place other than Tim Hortons, I would recommend that you stop by the Coffee Hut.

I had a seniors veal cutlet with mashed potatoes & gravy and cooked beets! I had a large glass of water with lemon and a Caesar that was too spicy but very good! For dessert I recommend the Very Berry Cheesecake which is Gluten free and not even sweet like most cheese cakes are! I like it better than the Hitch 'in Post restaurant next door! Dawn & Justine are excellent waitresses ! They are always rushing trying to get people seated , giving them water & taking their orders! They really hustle!

The best on-reserve restaurant in Canada! A destination dining experience in a beautiful setting that brings nature indoors ("nipsis" means willow in Cree). The bustling restaurant is also a social Enterprise, providing needed work experience and employment training to Maskwacis youth. 100% of the profits go back into student training. Join us at Nipsis! Good food that does good.Comfort Food with a First Nations twist!
If your looking for a nice night out for couples or a group of friends, there is a refreshing option just 45 minutes drive south of Edmonton.
Nipsis Cafe puts on a Native cultural spread that will get your taste-buds drooling.
The other night we went with a few friends. The place was all decorated for the occasion with a forest themed motif. We started with an original Nipsis Cree-sar salad (other option was Chicken Soup).
Next up was the main course, a loin of pork generously splashed with a tasty white dill sauce. Fresh garden vegetables (local) sautéed to perfection nestled in with a great barley risotto with sauce.
For dessert there was pumpkin pie, and my favorite apple crisp.
Selections of beer from Edmonton Bent Stick Brewery was available at the bar.

The Rusty Putter is known for our incredible soups, top quality beef and meats, and generous portions. We are open to the public and welcome family dining. We have often been told how much fun and comfortable the atmosphere is, and the service is top notch. We have the best view in Ponoka from our beautiful deck.

I stopped in here while working nearby. The food was good and the menu had good variety. The place was practically empty at lunch time on a Thursday. Maybe add a few TVs to get a little better atmosphere in the place and bring more people in. Has potential. Service was friendly. I’d be willing to stop in again for the food but not if it’s to have fun with friends over some drinks. They need to liven up the place a bit.
