We are so glad we stumbled upon this place--just off the highway--on our way from Lisbon to the Algarve. It is super easy to get to and has great free parking, which is a bonus. The staff speaks limited English, but they were super friendly and helpful. The food was super wonderful and a great value! I had the eels, my husband had a grilled fish (what exactly it was was lost in translation ha ha), shared a jug of house wine, and had a little espresso and ice cream dessert. It was fresh, well-prepared, and hit the spot! We totally recommend this place! (Also, many items on the menu are naturally gluten free and suitable for celiacs)

Packed with locals, very noisy and lively. - A great place to have a long lunch on a Sunday afternoon. A generous buffet of truly local starters, soups, mains, cheeses and desserts. Drinks (sangria, wine, beer, soft drinks, coffee etc.) are included it the price, to be ordered in the table..The food is buffet style, so no steaks etc.
The personnel is very efficient, friendly and helpful. The patron was very friendly, as well. A very positive experience, would not miss if staying in 30 minutes drive range.

Eating in Portugal is a job for the adventurous and for the cognoscenti. It's all the more fun when you have someone local to show you around. Generally, there are restaurants for every price range. This review is about one of the 'Family restaurants' that are so popular in Portugal with the Portuguese. These are rarely frequented by tourists, which is a shame as they are an inexpensive and tasty way to try 'real' Portuguese cuisine.
Velho Cangalho is one such restaurant, and it lives in the luxury of having establihsed itself as one of the first such restaurants in the area.
However, despite the name, it has lost some of its appeal of late. having taken on board fruit served with meat idea as adopted from Brazilian cuisine, it hasn´t evolved in the slightest in the last 15 years. And, whilst it is relatively inexpensive, the food has simply been overtaken, and, more often than not, the steaks are gristly and lacking in flavour.
I have eaten at Cangalho (both the Old (velho) and the new (novo) restaurants) and the quality is the same.
A 'bitoque' (pronounced bee-tok) is a traditional lunchtime meal: pork steak with chips, salad fried egg, and rice will set you back around EUR7-8. Their 'Terra e Mar' (Sea and Land) platter costs in the region of EUR23 and serves 2.
If you are not bothered by general blandness, you might actually enjoy the food, but why pay more when there are no less than 4 other restaurants within 4km that serve the same basic stuff and charge around 2-3 EUR less?
Again, I have nothing against the restaurant staff or the location (easy to find, easy to park, halfway between Palmela/Setubal and within easy reach of Lisbon and Freeport shopping outlet), it's just the food has really suffered of late from, how shall I put it? Lack of inspiration?

Blink and you'll miss this great little place but it's definitely worth the stop.
When you're the only foreign couple amongst a restaurant full of locals you know you've struck gold. The place was heaving and the food was hearty, fresh and served attentively - even despite our lack of Portuguese and their pigeon English - but that what makes travelling fun!!
We were recommended the place from the owner of our villa. There are a few more seemingly 'upmarket' places on the same road but this place has a great atmosphere and reasonable pricing.
You won't leave hungry!

We went there twice. The first night we had the fantastic rabbit graciosa and really enjoyed it and the real genuine welcome so we booked for the Saturday night as well when we had the delicious dorada or in English golden bream. Again delicious. Highly recommended.

Went first time to O Ninho, and what a great surprise. All is very clean, we where well received and a lot of attention from friendly staff. The food is absolutly amazing, we choose Caldeirada de Peixe for two and kids a special meat cut, with rice and chips. I can tell you, the chef came to our table and both kids where simply saying how great the food was. And about the Caldeirada ?? I must say.... From fisrt bite to the end, the very best. Great house wine, and the home made Deserts also completed this magnificent lunch.
I must say, i will be back....
