Pienza, a town in Tuscany, is the "touchstone of Renaissance urbanism." In 1996, UNESCO declared the town a World Heritage Site and in 2004 the entire valley, the Val d'Orcia, was included on the list of Unesco’s World Cultural Landscapes. Pienza was the birthplace of Aeneas Silvius Piccolomini, who would become Pope Pius II. After he became Pope, Piccolomini had the entire village rebuilt as an ideal Renaissance town that would serve as a retreat from Rome.

The tavern is located in proximity of the entrance door of Monticchiello, a nice medieval village near Pienza. With its few places (it is better to reserve), it proposes an elegant room, furnished with taste in typical tuscan style, it is comfortable and familiar. The courtesy and the professionality of the owner, Daria, young and passionate sommelier, are an optimal guide in the choice of the plates and the wines. During the beautiful season it is possible to eat in the Terrace, enjoying a wonderful sight on Pienza, the Val d'Orcia and the Amiata.Accommodation in Monticchiello- The residence "Il Torrino" is a panoramic apartment obtained from the restauration of an ancient tower belonging to the boundaries of the medieval suburb Monticchiello. The structure, in proximity of the principal access to the village, has been completely restructured from the owner with taste and scrupulous care of the details. At guests' disposal a double room and a living-room with couch-bed and TV; panoramic view on Pienza and the Val d’Orcia. The prices for the weekly stay change according to the season and are comprehensive of heating, final cleaning, household linen. For briefer stays contact the owner.
I have reviewed La Porta several times now and am still waiting for it not to be perfect.
Probably my all time favourite restaurant. The views are sensational. But a view does not make a restaurant and fortunately Chef Moreno delivers in spades.
Local rustic food done to a high standard. The wine list is also amazing.
Daria, the owner , is the perfect host, very knowledgable about the wine and food.
Book a table on the Terrace if the weather is good or inside if not. This is a MUST visit.

Our family chose this restaurant based on the reviews on trip advisor. Unfortunately, for us 3 out of the 4 members were very ill straight after eating here with severe sickness and diarrohea. Whilst initially we were reasonably happy with our food one family member became ill within 10 minutes of leaving this restaurant followed shortly by the rest. We are not sure what of the food ordered made them ill or possibly we wondered if we received water that was not bottled water. Hence we are unable to give this restaurant a good review.

We're looking for a place to have a glass of wine in the afternoon and were surprised with this lovely and small place, with excellent service, nice wine and delicious cheese table (Pienza is a well known pecorino cheese producer). We recommend it!

We had one of the top Lunches of our trip everything was great. The place is known mainly for there truffle and yes I'm not even a fan of truffle but theirs is exceptional!!
We ordered truffle specials: the bread truffle and cheese as a starter ,the pasta with minced meat and the sliced meat with truffle .
I can still feel the taste ... must must must try!!! Don't miss it when your in pienza .

Fabulous authentic Italian food in a beautiful piazza in picturesque Pienza! Don't miss the amazing bean soup, grilled cheese and bacon and homegrown tomatoe dishes...absolutely divine and our favourite meal while we were in Italy. Kick back, enjoy a table outdoors and let the generous host order for you, you won't be sorry!

This is a family run restaurant just outside the old city centre of Pienza. The guests appeared to be a good mix of locals and visitors whereas most of the city centre restaurants catered mostly to tourists. The food is plentiful, very well prepared and the focus is on local dishes, many featuring game. The service is excellent and value hard to beat. A two course dinner for two people including house wine by the carafe came to c. 45 Euros. Certainly worth another visit: we plan to return.

Locale accogliente dove si possono gustare ottimi piaci della tradizione pientina, s condì piatti tradizioneli ed ottimi taglieri di pecorini e salumi, nonche crostoni, bruschette e fondute
Lunch and we were lucky to get a table as we didn't have a booking...very small restaurant but such great food...ravioli was delicious and could have eaten another plate! It was beautiful and the best we have tasted for a great price. Meat and cheese platter for two was enormous, fresh, tasty and we took leftovers away. A complimentary limoncello to finish the meal. I wish I was a local so I could try all the dishes. Thank you!

Service - TOP! with one exception of a full-bearded gentleman, who believed to decide against our wish which candle/light needs to be switched on or not during a romantic dinner. Lucky us that we hat a wonderful female lady and chef de service to solve the dispute. Greatly managed then. Full-bearded was not allowed to come near to us anymore.
Food: How do I put it without damaging the confidence of the young Alessandro Rossi, who got a Michelin Star in November 2016? The pigeon was wonderful - The wine Sancerre perfect - The amuse-bouches special, but not our taste (too much salt here and there with the white sause/soup - The bread not to our expected standard but may be our standard is too high - The tartare had too much Mushroom taste and the meat taste was not detectable - The red mullet seafood spaghetti had too much tomato taste and the fish/seafood taste hardly detectable (may be the idea of the recipe?) - The explanations of the food combinations too complicated and not memorisable -
Ambiente TOP!
Would we come back? yes, but for the Service and Ambiente as the key reasons.
Our apologies for being open and giving constructive feedback, as we wish the young cook all the best for his career and may be we inspired positive development for the next Michelin Star.
Thank you for the wonderful evening.
Two guests from Germany in romantic mood.

A new restaurant in this unspoiled mediaeval hill town. It is run by Deborah, the charming daughter of Daria, owner of Monticchiello's famed La Porta. I hosted a wedding eve dinner there on July 7th - the first big party Deborah had catered. The food, wine, service and ambience were ll outstanding. I can't praise the generosity of spirit which animated the whole event highly enough.
Excellent food and friendly service, but not timely service. Expect to wait...a lot. They just need to hire more staff.

Going through Tuscany, Pienza is a nice stop. When going through town, stop for a unique pizza experience. If you're traveling on two wheels - motorcycle you can stop just on marked motorcycle's parking on the main road through town Pienza. Take a stroll on narrow cobble-stoned streets, stop on Piazza Pio for the view of famous Tuscan's rolling hills filled with grapevines.
La Mensa del Conte offers variety of pizzas to choose from. It's italian pizza - thin, with crust, baked at high temperature. Consider it more as a snack than lunch. Be sure to ask for special tool for cutting the pizza - scissors! That's how thin it is. Terrace is much nicer option than sitting inside. Staff is pleasant, kind and with a smile on their face. They do a nice job. I stop here every time I visit Pienza.
