Enthusiastic staff and good service marked our dinner here. The food was better than we expected but not great - a very authentic rabbit terrine and a delicate sole meuniere, the latter a little spoiled by its presentation, were both good value. The wine list didn't offer much but a Languedoc chardonnay hit the spot. Not somewhere I'd hurry back to but full marks for effort - and it was full of locals and French tourists.

On Wednesday we made RV with two couples, each visiting Paimpol in their lovely 43ft cruisers. They wanted something a bit special and mentioned another Paimpol restaurant which I would not recommend, so had to come up with something sure - I had to plump for the Hotel de la Marne, with crossed fingers that nothing had changed since our last visit. We were not disappointed. The three-course meal (plus amuse-gueules) was the simple 27€ 'Menu Pampoull' (there were other menus available). Having had lunch recently with an oenologist and learned a few things about fish and wine, we had langustine brochettes trimmed with foie-gras and quail eggs for openers with a chilled Chinon (I had to ask for the wine to be chilled down in an ice-bucket !) then, for the main course, a plate organised around a perfectly undercooked piece of fillet steak - organised, since there were other diversions on the plate - washed down with a comfortable Morgon. Strangely, the distaff side then opted for cheese, whilst the men had 'Crème Vanille et compotée de framboise enrobée de chocolat blanc,Glace Vanille, sorbet fruit rouge'. The menu offered the choice of cheese or dessert for the third included plate. I forget how much the menu was increased if one had wanted cheese and dessert. With 6 menus at 27€ and two bottles of un peu pricey wine, we ended up at 45€/pp. Not bad for true 5-star dining.
Not to mention the excellent attentive service, somewhat above that generally available in Brittany apart from the truly expensive Michelin-starred establishments.

Open 7/7 all year, noon and evening Loaded with history, L'Icelandic proposes a traditional cuisine elaborated by our chef Florian in very different marine universes. Pancakes, pancakes, rib steaks, seafood, gourmet salads, ... Coffee break, gourmet break in front of the harbor boats at any time. The meals are done in Terrace seen on the port or in room in an atmosphere with marine decors. Séverine welcomes you every afternoon and proposes a simplified map around a good Breton beer from the Philomenn house.
In a month of living and traveling in France this place offered the sweetest oysters we have encountered, and we’ve eaten oysters nearly every lunch and dinner during a 10-day seacoast excursion through Brittany. They are unimaginably good. Coupled with a mixed salad of fresh greens, tomatoes, bacon and melted cheese on toasted baguette slices it was a meal to remember. Lobster (the local blue-legged variety) poached with celery root was delicate and delicious. The waiter alone was worth the visit—funny, boisterous, completely entertaining. And don’t miss the lobster tank if you haven’t seen blue-legged local lobsters—guess the water here is really a lot colder than in New England. Delicious food, unforgettable oysters, a place not to be missed.

Le Balthazar is a restaurant with a warm and friendly atmosphere in the middle of old stones. The kitchen is made in front of you on the embers in a majestic fireplace. It feels like home, around a good table with homemade cuisine made from fresh, local, seasonal and organic products. The selection of French wine and Breton beers (including a range of organic wine and beer) can also be enjoyed at the counter, accompanied by a good plate of cold meats or cheeses!
With a very charming attitude, la madame de maison explained the short, yet exquisite menu of the day in detail and recommended the perfect wine matches to go with our choices. Each one of our main courses and Deserts were delicious, and the wines... Wow! Very relaxed atmosphere and absolutely worth the value.

Hi, this was not a good experience. As soon as we sat down we kept hearing the microwave: it seems the cook was reheating every "fancy" filling. We had the scallop and leeks savoury crepe: scallops luke warm and sauce was tasteless. As for the smoked trout and small vegetables, the veggies were very sour. We left without trying the sweet pancakes as we had enough. To be avoided!

The owner of the gite where we were staying picked this out for us as one of her two favourite restaurants in Paimpol and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed sitting outside gazing over the harbour and were very pleased with our menu gourmand - a well-spent 38 euros a head. We could equally have eaten well from several cheaper but good sounding menus or enjoyed a plateau de fruits de mer, as many diners were.
As it was, my ravioli of langoustine was full of flavour and of decent shellfish, with a sauce that excelled. Our brill with green asparagus (the noble fish dish, as they described it) was very fine, with a thick, perfectly cooked piece of fish; the pear and caramel millefeuille disappointed slightly after such great dishes.
A bottle of Jurançon matched the food perfectly.
Staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful.
If the Neptune doesn't stand out visually in the long line of harbour facing restaurants, it stands out for its food.

There were quite a few restaurants to choose from along the quay in Paimpol, but we weren't disappointed with Tonton Guy. The lunchtime menu was excellent, with lots of fresh seafood, very nicely cooked, with a chilled glass of house rose to wash it all down. Excellent value and Friendly service.

We visited this creperie for lunch. It is just off the main square and it was justifiably very busy. We chose the calzone (fold-over) galette and it was excellent. It was accompanied with a local artisan cider which was one of the best we have tasted in Brittany. The service was efficient and friendly and judging by the mix of tourists and locals it is very popular. They also do a gargantuan galette which diners were really enjoying if you have the appetie.

The moules here are garanteed fresh and very good value. When we came the first time there were no tourists. The next time (a Saturday)the place was almost full although we did get the feeling that many were locals. The service is simple, nothing fancy, but with no extra, unnecessary fuss. Very nice!
