If you want to enjoy and exellent pizza or pasta, there is no other place to go in Oruro, very nice place and courteus attendants will make your meal a nice experience in our city
It isn't real italian pizza with a thin base, but it was filling and pretty good value. Drinks are pretty cheap too. A medium pizza costs around 43 bolivianos and te and cafe are arund 3 bolivianos. They also do pasta, tacos, chips, garlic bread, sandwiches and ice cream as well as pretty cheap alcohol, e.g. a shot of bacardo is 15 bolivianos, and breakfast consisting of either continental or pancakes.

Had lunch here after arriving by bus from La Paz before continuing on to Uyuni. Our guide persuaded us to have the traditional dried llama meat with corn, potato and hard boiled egg. I'm game for anything so that's what we had. The llama meat tasted a little bit like dense crispy seaweed; it was okay but not a dish I would rush back to have again.
The place itself is very close to the bus stop/station so is ideal for a meal either before getting on/off a bus. The décor is very plain and quite utilitarian.

We went to Govinda on the back of a recommendation in the Lonely Planet, and can honestly say it was the worst food we ate in the entire time we were in Bolivia.
Our party of five ordered eight dishes between us and each and every one was bland, unimaginative and greasy, delivered with surly service too.
Oruro is hardly a culinary hotspot, but there are far better places than Govinda in town.

I have been to this restaurant a number of times over the past 12 years. My most recent visit was last night (Sept 16 2012). The food here is excellent (saltenas in the morning and pizza in the evening). The service is great. The restaurant is usually filled with locals - from families to young couples on a date. The prices are reasonable (about 25-35 bolivianos for a personal sized (about 6 inch diameter) pizza. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for pizza or saltenas.

Very good value-for-money meat restaurant, best place to eat your "bife chorizo" or "churrasco" in Oruro. Also a very good salad bar (included), rare in Oruro! Service is excellent. Interesting detail: because the barbecue is outside and the kitchen at the other side of the restaurant you can see the waiters take your piece of meat to the barbecue across the restaurant:-)

This place is very convenient for a nice lunch before you get on the tourist train to Uyuni. It is about a block from the train station. The quality of food is exceptional, they have good vegetarian options. The service is friendly and they were very understanding when we explained that we had to catch a train in 30 minutes.
Overall a great experience.

Tipical food of Oruro. Cow, chiken, lamb and fish. Lunch and dinner in stablished time. Several cold and hot drinks. Music and Television. Salon, mezzanine and solarium spaces. 25 years at Oruro's service.
At first we ate here at lunch time. It was close to our hotel and they have menu of the day. It took the waitress two attempts to explain to us we had to pay ahead of time, get a ticket and then give that to her for our food.
Lunch was a simple meal, but included soup, a main course and jello for dessert. For about $3, you cannot complain.
We returned for dinner and again the place was packed, but we found a table. Again, you make your menu selections and then pay ahead of time.
Dinner was again simple, but tasty and filling. This is a good budget place, especially during Carnaval.

A restaurant attached to the Hotel Oporto, on the corner adjacent to the Bus terminus.
If you have never tasted Bolivian food before (and there is no reason why you should not have), and you are willing to be excited by it, then go to El Fogon’s. However, go hungry, because the portions are huge. The menu is in both Spanish and English, so there is no reason to not know what you are getting (unless you understand neither language), which is probably a good thing for at least one item on the menu. There are also pictures on the wall as to what your plate should (and does) look like.
