Having recently visited Offenburg on business I was faced with the hotel restaurant or the opportunity to be a little more adventurous so once again I trusted Trip Advisor to lead the way.
I chose the Ferdinand restaurant as it had the top rating in the area and I'm so pleased that I did as it was a wonderful experience.
As my German language skills are very poor I had some difficulty understanding the menu so I opted for the Vital Menu which was a 4 course fixed menu and as I wasn't sure what I had ordered I was a little apprehensive until my first course arrived.
It was a beautifully presented started with a scallop as its centre piece. The next three courses were just as beautifully presented and every one of them was delicious.
If I get the opportunity to revisit the area I know where I will be heading for dinner.

Went for dinner while visiting area on holiday. Waiter spoke English but had patience while we tried some of our German. Everything we ordered (pizza, salad, and pasta for family of 4 to share) was amazing. Would highly recommend!

I like this place for its atmosphere! Somehow it makes me feel like I'm not in a small town but in a really great place!
Also I find important that you can always get some hot food there, even if all other restaurants are having their pause. And the food is very good!!

We used to come here every Christmas and also fairly regularly in summer. It's always been outstanding both food- and drinkwise. Their salads are excellent. The garden to the back is enchanting, and the main cafe/restaurant is beautifully decorated with oversized mirrors, chandeliers and tables. Unfortunately, on my last visit the cocktails were poor. More than poor. They were worse than at that Coyote place! I don't know if it was a one off - it happened once before that the cocktails were below standard so we complained and promptly got much improved drinks. This time, we were too busy to complain - we had to catch-up and socialise after all! But I wish the standards wouldn't slip. The cocktails are too expensive for that and Offenburg can't afford to lose one of its prime meeting places.

this is the first restaurant in Offenburg that has been able to make me sweat! I ordered the pad thai to go with "Very Spicy", They did not disappoint. I would liked to have more peanuts but as it was take out I will give them a pass. The bartender spoke American English very well and was able to take my order.

Restaurant Sonne is attached to an atmospheric old hotel of the same name. It is in the middle of the Haupt Strasse which is quite wide, so if you eat outside (which we did) you get the impression of sitting at the edge of a grand and spacious platz.
The friendly waitresses wore a cute local traditional dress, similar to the design of the Oktoberfest outfit.
The one disappointment was the price. We asked the waitress to recommend a typical local dish. It was lovely but the bill surprised us. At €20.50 it was €11 more expensive than an identical dish we ordered the following night at a restaurant of similar standard.

We were welcomed with a pleasant smile. Effort was made to understand the dietary requirements. We were assured that the chef is able to prepare the food accordingly. The service was good. The food portions were generous, well cooked and tasty. Great eating experience even though we required gluten free food. Will go again, and recommend for coeliacs.

On our way back from France, we decided to enjoy a lovely dinner together. We stop here and it was good. The staff was on the spot with greeting us and was always attentive to our needs. The place was abuzz with patrons, jovial and lively atmosphere.
We had to start with fried cheese which was quite tasty. The main course was a mix of bifteki and gyro meat. The tzaziki sauce was perfect! We had the house wine which was a good accompaniment to the dinner. We finished our meal with a greek desert, a type of custard pie, but not a custard, it was a little bit of Greece that you would enjoy.

Eine tolle Lage direkt am Gifiz am Rande von Offenburg.
Das Essen ist gut, der Service freundlich und wenn man Lust hat kann man am Schluß noch baden gehen.
Was will man mehr.

Avoid this restaurant at all costs. Service is shocking and I've never received such rude service ever than what we got here. Waited 15 minutes to even be acknowledged to start off with. Then ordered our food. Drinks came out fairly quickly but overpriced €3.90 for a coke is a bit much. Then 1 meal came out but other didn't. Was told it would be 5 mins. 20mins later and still no sign of my meal. At this point, we cancelled the 2nd meal as we were fed up with waiting. No apology or anything. We paid the bill and left even though one of us hadn't eaten.
Basically called a liar because apparently we hadn't been waiting 20mins according to them. Still expected us to pay for 1 meal and both drinks. Worst experience I've ever received. Wish I could give 0 stars! Waitress was so rude and laughed at us whilst I tried to explain the bad experience! Do not waste your money!!
