The 'Huguenot city' of Neu-Isenburg is a town in Germany, located in the Offenbach district of Hesse. It is part of the Frankfurt Rhein-Main urban area and has a population of 35,472 (2007). The town is known nowadays mainly for its regionally used shopping centre, the Isenburg-Zentrum (IZ), the Hugenottenhalle, the Hotel Kempinski Frankfurt, the Autokino Gravenbruch (the oldest drive-in cinema in Europe), the Sportpark, the Waldschwimmbad (swimming pool) and not least of all its central location near Frankfurt Airport.

It is nice to find a traditional local restaurant that is not too commercialised.
The service was great and the local cuisine on offer was extensive. We all ordered different dishes and each one was flavoursome and came in big portions.
A great find and highly recommended!

Every time when being in Frankfurt, having dinner at Luigi`s restaurant, “Neuer Haferkasten” is unavoidable. An extraordinary choice of fresh fish and beef combined with great pasta and other accompaniments make every visit a great pleasure. Despite the “usual food“, Luigi offers for lunch special menus, which ensure a good price-performance ratio. Especially in summer times, the fantastic garden is a great argument for having lunch/dinner at this place.
Besides the lauded food and ambiente, the personal is always friendly and very attentive.
All in all, Luigi does a great job while trying to fulfill every wish of it`s clients.

Freddy's Kartoffelstubb - This little restaurant has a great atmosphere and served some very hearty schnitzel meals and local beer. Think unpretentious pub meals and if this style suits you then consider this eatery if you are in the area.

The atmosphere is very pleasant. service definitely ok. What I love most about the place are the cocktails. They make the best cosmopolitan ever. the food is good , especially tapas casa rincon. A nice place to hang out with friends or significant other

This was my favourite meal of the trip. We stopped by accident after visiting the shopping centre but surprised us all as the best place of the trip with a good menu selection and very well cooked food

This is our third time to this restaurant while visiting relatives. As on previous visits we found the food, service and atmosphere very enjoyable. The menu while not extensive as some, offers authentic German food including regional specialities. Good beers and wines. English language menu available. Service is friendly and efficient given the place is always packed and seems popular with groups. An authentic, bustling, loud, cheerful German dining experience. If you want to try that, then Apfelwein Foehl delivers in spades but while they will always try to find you a table, I would strongly advise booking to avoid disappointment.
Unfortunately our relatives will leave Germany in summer, so we will need to find an excuse to travel back for a meal. It would be worth the trip.

We went here randomly for a business dinner, and it was probably the best decision for this area! Great staff and very attentive service. The waiters were kind enough to to explain the menu since no one in our group was native German. The food portions were just the right size, for an area where enormous portions are a norm! I'd definitely visit this place again!

It was a Monday night, and all tables reserved, but as were early and would be out before the reservation, we were welcomed in and had the choices explained (and the history as the first African restaurant in Germany). Designed to be eaten with the fingers (but with forks provided) it's Eritrean food, and delicious. Interesting drinks choice (the Nigerian Guinness) and all very atmospheric. It seemed good value with the main course from around €12.

I ask you to name a high (food) quality restaurant that “mandates” only the owner/chef/father or the co-owner/chef/son to take all food orders. There is one in Neu-Isenburg – Alter Haferkasten.
Last night I waited 20-25 minutes to GIVE my food order because the waiter told me that he could not take my food order. Why? – because only the chef(s) can take food orders.
Plus, only the chef(s) can and do decant all red wine bottles.
Also, this restaurant (overly) favors regulars. I have been there four of five times, but that does not qualify me as a regular. Hence, I get the back room seat and the curt greeting of “so, what do you want to eat?” Part of the “ritual” of taking the food order by the owners is to shower the regular customers with complements. This takes time and takes time away from getting the food orders from the non-regulars. Plus, the compliments make the regulars feel good about the place so they don’t feel bad when they get the check – very expensive.
Appetizers start at €14, but are as high as €24. Entrees are equally high. Wine list is extensive, but very pricey.
If you want to be showered with complements (after you become a regular) and spend a lot of money doing so, this is your place. If you want to get a good meal and not have to be subjected to a ridiculous ritual, stay away – because that is what I am going to do. I had my last meal there last night.
