Montego Bay Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Montego Bay

January 20, 2018 Karren Gelb

While this Jamaican spring break favorite is great for party animals, it can also be surprisingly low key – if you want. Montego Bay has excellent duty-free shopping, vibrant nightlife, and calm waters. Browse the local handicrafts at the open-air Harbour Street market, or the "hip strip" shops of Gloucester Avenue. The underwater crevices of Widowmaker’s Cave offer an intricate diving experience. Float serenely down the Martha Brae River on a bamboo raft and let your troubles melt away under the sun.

Amazing view with great staff!!! Very low key with some of the most amazing fish around. The menu was decent with different options to choose from. Highly recommended if you want some REAL Jamaican food or just to venture off the resort your staying at.

I now know why this is rated as one of the top 10 restaurants in Jamaica!
Pros: Atmosphere (picture), Food, Service. Marlin Appetizer (picture), and Oxtail Ravoli (picture) were outstanding. Really good mango cocktail.
Cons: Extensive but very expensive wine list.
Truly a great experience. Highly recommend. Expect over $100 per person for cocktail, appetizer, meal, and dessert.

My friend and I had heard great things about Roundhill both the service and dining experience. We love the film ‘How Stella got her Groove back’ which was filmed there and looked forward to a visit for dinner. We asked our rep at our hotel to assist us with booking a table for dinner in the Grill. He requested and confirmed our booking for 7.30pm in the restaurant upstairs with the fantastic views over the beautiful Caribbean Sea.
We were staying at Secret St James Hotel & Spa and organised transfers with Roundhill at a cost of $60.
When we arrived, we went to the bar for a pre-dinner cocktail. Whaley and Kemal made us the most delicious cocktails. Really friendly and great service! What a wonderful start to our evening.
The weather had been unusually awful in Jamaica for the time of year with rain nearly every day of our week long holiday. We at least had a lovely dinner to look forward to with stunning views. Well how wrong could we be when we were advised that there was a wedding in the upstairs restaurant due to it being moved for the weather.
We were very upset and spoke to the night Manager Osley Cooke, who can only be described as arrogant, rude and unhelpful. We explained that we had specifically booked the restaurant with the lovely view as a special evening and that as our rep made the booking from our hotel, a courtesy phone call should have been made to advise us of the change. This could have given us a choice to either still go in the evening booked or rebook for another evening. We had already paid the $60 for the taxi and only had one night of our holiday left, so had no choice but to stay. When I suggested to Osley Cooke that perhaps he should check who was responsible for taking our booking in the knowledge that the restaurant wasn’t available, he blatantly looked me up and down like something he had wiped off his shoe.
We were blinded by science being shown all the different menus for the different days and restaurants. It is safe to say we had lost the will to live and decided to stay for dinner in the informal restaurant. We were shown to a table with no view at all that we could easily been in our own hotel restaurant. We were handed the menus which did not resemble anything that we had just been shown along with the drinks menu. Just to top off the evening the restaurant Manger pointed at the drinks menu saying these ones are cheaper. Really? Do we look like we can’t afford the drinks menu? Do you know us? Do you know what our bank balance looks like? Seriously what an insult. Please take some advice and GET OVER YOURSELVES, you are not all that and your food was cold. If you don’t want to be treated like a second class citizen, choose somewhere else!

Came to this restaurant from the riu in Montego Bay. What can I say! Such a beautiful night. Situated obviously on a boat which was a nice experience. The food was lovely. I had shrimp fritter starter and lobster and steak main course. The steak is fantastic. Cheesecake for pudding. So people say it’s a bit over priced but personally you get what you pay for and I thought it was well priced. A must to go and eat in my opinion. If your in the Montego Bay Area can I also recommend Orel the taxi driver who is fantastic and a really nice man.

Was torn between taking $25 cab ride to Scothies and 10 min walk here. I think I made the right choice. Yes we were hassled every 2 mins by someone selling us something or begging, but worth it. The chicken was great and the sauce selection allowed me to spice mine up without burning out my lady. Cheap and plentiful

They focus on the buffets here. The problem is they don't replace and replenish the food often, so alot of the dishes are dried out and tired. Get to the buffet early or it'll be warmed-over. If you order off the menu, you'll wait (25 minutes for lunch) and the chef just doesnt create anything particularly interesting or flavorful, in my opinion. Salads are nice and the fruit /smoothie bar is quite good. The staff is super--- pleasant, polite, helpful. Some of it is the price-point: at $40 for breakfast and $50 per person for lunch, you expect--and they should deliver--a heck of a lot more.
Would not return.
