At Marlena's new location you enjoy fine dining in a courtyard setting with great ambience. Our International cuisine has something for everyone. We serve fish, meat dishes, and salads. We also have a weekly special. Our chef also prepares wonderful appetizers and desserts. A full bar is available with "Happy Hour" 5pm to 7pm. Open from 5:00 pm to 11 pm Monday through Saturday. Reservations are welcomed.
Having enjoyed a previous meal there we decided to go back as our friends were heading home the following day. We had ordered some starters and the main meal. We were on our second drink (almost an hour) when the starters and one meal arrived. One person was finished the main meal (part of his meal was cold) when the others arrived they were also cold. We sent them back and the owner who watches everything going on, went to the kitchen and oversaw the meals behind reheated.
The meal when it finally arrived was tasty but we had expected the owner at least acknowledge our presence and offer an apology. We would have been fine with that but she retreated to the bar area and basically turned her back on us. Totally unprofessional and downright rude. One member of the party approached her and pointed out out the problems we encountered and abruptly said fine and crossed off the 3 cold meals from the bill
As we left she sat at the bar and scowled at us as we left
There are many other fine restaurants in Barra Isadoras, Besame Mucho, Mangalitos etc. that are more deserving of your business than Marlenas and she has lost a frequent Barra visitors as customers

Excellent organic coffee, breakfasts, salads, pastas, baguettes and more. Everything is fresh and homemade. I recommend the chiles rellenos, chicken curry salad, Thai salad, and pastas. The staff is wonderful and they speak English, Spanish and French. Highly recommended. Oh, and they have wireless internet and a great selection of clothes in the boutique.
We visited friends for a light lunch and sat at one of the outdoor tables. The menu (see photo) included some vegetarian choices; we tried 2 - the vegetarian spring rolls (not fried) and the vegetarian quesadillas. Both were tasty. Especially liked the peanut dipping sauce for the rolls. Calypso is a little unusual, with half in fact being a boutique offering clothes for sale! We thought the service was good and prices were reasonable. Friend said his smoothie was very good. We will return next time we are in Melaque and crave a veggie bite.

My companion and I stopped in for a first class meal on one of our last nights in Melaque. We were not disappointed. We started with a bottle of full bodied red which we sipped as we listened to the great Mexican music. I ordered the lightly seared tuna and he ordered the bacon wrapped filet. Well, what a show and what great flavours. I would highly recommend this restaurant for that special night out.

This restaurant is popular with gringos. It has clean bathrooms and is always busy in high season. One of my experiences was ordering the special Sandwich which is not exactly cheap! One side of the Sandwich was made with the heal of the bread. The next time there I asked if they could cut tht crust off my Sandwich in the kitchen and the owner said I will bring you a knife. The third time was a charm after waiting 20 minutes and 4 of us not being acknowledged we left. They do have good sandwiches and clean bathrooms and a good bar.

Gigi runs a consistant quality of quality food and has a large clientel that comes back year after year. Her staff stays with her so they know the menu well and are very helpful. She has in door and out door Seating serving wine and mixed drinks. Gigi seems to come around to each table and greet all her guests.
It is one of our favorite restaurants in the area.

Located just a few steps from the main square and ATM, in a comfortable and charming place. Original italian food, cooking in traditional way by italian owners. Wood oven to cook our famous pizzas!!
We had pizza, pasta and fresh fish here. They served some pickled condiments that were to die for. Pizza so fresh, smokey, crisp (we like crisp and thin), rich with aged cheeses! Same for the pasta and veggies - very fresh, al dente - perfect. Good service. Good libation. Dark and cool inside with a tropical feel to it including some lush greenery on the patio and beautiful decor. We very much enjoyed our meals here and would recommend it!

Four of us popped in for lunch after wandering the Thursday market. Ends us, they don't serve lunch, just breakfast and dinner. So we had breakfast with our Margaritas - only in Mexico, right? View - great; food - good; service with a cheerful smile. Looks like a good place for dinner.

We had a group of eight for a Sunday evening when there was live music. Very pleasant open-air setting, with the pool and the plants all around and appropriate lighting.
The live music was reasonably entertaining, with a good guitarist doing a variety of standards and a vocalist performing adequate schmaltzy stuff.
There's an open salad bar (a bit of nostalgia for those who remember open salad bars) with a good selection of items, including a pretty nice potato salad. The salad bar's a good idea, because the entrees took a looong time to arrive. The first reason for this is a small kitchen which can't keep up with a packed house. The place was also understaffed for the number of patrons this particular night, so the servers as well as the cooks were basically running off their feet.
When the food arrived, it was very good. Everyone at our table was very happy with their meal (the ribs were a particular hit).
For us, it was a positive experience. We'd be happy to return, but on a night with live music, I'd be prepared for delays.

We went to the rooster for dinner. It was literally the most disgusting meal we have ever had. My husband ordered the chicken burger, not to bad. I ordered the Salisbury steak. It was stone cold with artificial potatoes which I normally like they were stone cold. Our friend ordered the beef fajitas, stone cold and tough. We ordered a meal of chicken and ribs to go. The ribs were so tough that we couldn’t eat them. During our meal the sewer was being emptied, the smell was absolutely nauseating. Absolutely the worst meal we have had in 35 years of traveling. Wow shame on you, putrid to say the least

Our group had a very good dinner here recently. The special pasta was amazing with such fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is simple but it is clean and the owners are super friendly! We had no issues with mosquitos but perhaps that is due to time of year we visited (January).
Definitely one to return to!!
