The breakfast Buffet was poor, there are some pale sausages and omelette, cheese, ham, some vegetables, sliced bread and only 1sort of marmelade and honey. But the very best is that we got free artificial juice but had to pay for a glass of still water!!! Unique in the world!
In the evening we took the restaurant speciality, which is beef Filet. We were Not asked by the waiter how the filet should be cooked and got it served more than done. Such a pity, since it was obvious that the quality of the meat was excellent!
Last but not least: we asked to eat on the outdoor Terrace but were informed that for some reason it was not open on that that day, only to realise by the end of the dinner that some people were actually eating there! We asked the waiter about this rather embarassing matter, he apologized but informed us that his boss was eating on the Terrace. We then concluded that there was certainly a special treatment policy for "important" people - like th boss of course - which did not apply to "average" customers.
This sums up the atmosphere of the restaurant.

The pizza was nice but nothing amazing- possibly because it had travelled. The papansi however was pretty blah compared to other amazing ones we had during this trip. We popped in for espresso one afternoon when we got caught in the rain. Service was typical of what we experienced in Romania- a little surley and slow, but no particular issue. I would quite happily eat in the restaurant if I was in the area and fancied pizza.

Food was ok, service was bad, we were there for 20 minutes before a waitress came to take our order. We had to call her back to order more drinks.

The pizza is good here, but I don't like the smoking area from the entrance. They have free Internet and good home made pizza sauce.

You will have better luck trying any of the "Romanian" menu set lunch offers available in the neighbourhood. This place's dishes are expensive and only remotely resembling Chinese.

Medias is one of the originally Saxon towns in Transylvania and has a beautiful well-preserved centre, even if the outskirts are a bit grotty. Amazingly, Lonely Planet doesn't even mention the place. The Offside Cafe is the only one on the central square and is in a charming old building. We had three good double espressos for a very reasonable AU$6. Like many places in Romania, they favour pounding canned music, but they were prepared to turn it down a bit. Also there was quite a bit of smoking going on inside when we were there - Romania at the time of writing still hadn't implemented the EU's ban on smoking indoors in cafes etc. When we were there in early April they hadn't yet set up their outside Seating on the square, but from photos it looks pleasant when they do.

While waiting on a Sunday morning for my train which was 3 and a half hours late, I was looking for an acceptable place where to kill the time in Medias. So, by chance I dropped into McGowans Pub and the anger about my train was gone immediately. Big range of drinks in combination with excellent service! That is much more than one can expect in this neighborhood. The waiter is highly skilled and serves Cognacs like in a 5 star place in the capital. I am grateful to this place and will certainly come back on another occasion! I can recommend this place to anybody!

Transylvanian restaurant with Terrace, located near the forest, in a quiet area of Medias, city located in the heart of Romania. Great food, great atmosphere and quality services. Romanian traditional dishes and beverage.
Well balanced menu and a nice selection of wines. Good service and amazing Romanian food. Totally recommended when in town. Parking available also, the location is also a bit remote but in the middle of nature so.... another plus
Being used to Bucharest food prices... this place has been an amazing surprise in terms of pricing. Recommended for all meals.

Stopped by for a drink after a long bike drive. The staff is kind&frindly, the order came quick and the location is ideal to relax in the center area of the town.
Try the local "socata" - made from the flowers of the European elder (or elderberry) shrub, Sambucus nigra.
