Restaurant Fortaleza do Guincho was opened in 1998, as the Hotel. Acclaimed French Chef Antoine Westermann introduced a haute cuisine restaurant, which quickly became a reference in Portugal. In 2001 the restaurant received a Michelin star, held until today. Originally with a classic French base, Portuguese products and traditions have been gaining more and more prominence in Fortaleza do Guincho. The inspiration that comes from the Sea; the philosophy is based and inspired by the Atlantic, the background setting of the Hotel. The best fish and seafood from the Portuguese coast as well as highest quality of national products are a constant on the Guincho table.
I copied another reviewer's headline because it is so true. This restaurant is completely sublime. The food is interesting, the wines are fantastic, the service is very polished and multilingual and the view is unbeatable. The dishes are varied but aligned with the local environment. You pick anywhere from 4-6 courses and then let the experience unfold. We did not get the wine pairings but if I went back- I would try that. The wine we had was amazing but their wine selection is so special- I would like to see how they pair the wine with the dishes. If you are in the area- this is STRONGLY recommended if you are at all food/wine oriented. It is fairly expensive but I felt it was a great value. The four course meal was about 40 euros at lunch. But this is a meal I will remember for a long time.

Stay away unless you want a super touristy, overpriced, over salted food and arrogant waiters. Oh, make sure to check your bill before you leave, they might throw in some extras... We have been traveling all over Portugal for 10 days and that was by far the worst dining experience...Look for some low key, "hall in a wall" kind of type places to experience a real Portuguese authentic dishes!

With out local help (or trip advisor) we would have easily missed this spot. It's a small directional sign you can easily miss. But our family had been touring and eating lots of traditional food and this restaurant was the perfect lunch spot for great salads. The Greek, Caesar, and fresh salads, juices, and ICE COLD beer really hit the spot. The out door tables with great water views really make it special.

Conceito Food Store With an elegant and comfortable space, located close to the city but far from the confusion , our main purpose is to create a unique experience of gastronomic discovery throughout the meal. We offer portuguese cuisine with contemporary influences and our open space kitchen works mainly with fresh products carefully selected in local markets and suppliers. We have our own gourmet store, where you can buy wine, jam and other products used on the confection of our dishes. Last but not least, we can also offer take-away, catering, workshops and brunch services. You can always count with the presence of our Chef, Daniel Estriga, that will welcome you like a friend, do his best to meet your expectations and is always available for a good chat. It is necessary to make reservation. We do not have Visa/Mastercard/Credit Card sistem!
Went for dinner. The location is odd but who really cares as inside it's very modern and we loved the open kitchen. The food is good to excellent (went for the five courses) at reasonable prices and the service very attentive and they actually really do care whether you like your meal. One thing we did not like was the cover charge of €2.20pp. We feel this belongs to cheap restaurants and although we are fully aware this is normal in Portugal and most Southern European countries, it just doesn't belong in a nice restaurant - just increase the prices a little.

We felt really like special guests...Misses, the owner, personally cooked that day for us, what made us feel really pleased and special, moreover she spent time talking with us. I ate the best salmon and tomato soup ever, and to be honest I am very picky in terms of food. Highly recommend!!

A cosy tapas bar with ambient music, where one can taste and share portuguese traditional home made snacks and dishes. Mediterranean, also vegetarian and spice routes cuisine, not forgetting the Moorish influence in Sintra. Slow food. We only serve fresh quality products, wine, beer, natural juices or refreshments and fine loose leaf teas. Free WIFI.
An enthusiastic welcome that did not wear out as the evening progressed. Lovely attention, deliciously different dishes a joy to enjoy. Our hosts could not have been more friendly and all the pasticos were wonderful. A little out of town but well worth the journey. Book!

Everything is cooked at the moment it is order by you. Fresh and high quality ingredients makes the final offer irresistable. Tapas and octopus are our speciality. Tapa with a Gin is a must. At friday evening we have fado musicians!
I went there with my daughters and my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Even though it must be difficult to find a parking spot, we loved it from the beginning to the end. The open kitchen allows you to see the cook doing is...MoreMany thanks for your review. Hope to see again in one of our 3 restaurantes :)

We looked this up on tripadvisor and probably wouldn't have found it otherwise as its tucked away from the usual tourist restaurant area.
As it wasn't high season we chanced our luck and got a table without booking.. It's a very small restaurant.
The waitor was very friendly and quite a character.
We had the vegetarian curry and the dorada fish which was cooked whole.
Delicious food at reasonable prices.
Would definitely come here again on a return visit.

We visited this restaurant a couple of times last year and again this year. We were not disappointed. The menu is varied and the food is very tasty. The service is very friendly. The restaurant is family run and has been so for many a year. It is very popular with locals and tourists in the area, it is therefore essential that one books a table in the evening. Every night the restaurant is full. It is shut after lunch on Sunday and all day Monday. The price is reasonable, for a main course and either a starter or dessert plus half a carafe of red wine was €30 for us.

I have been to this restaurant for over 25 years. Their Cozido à Portuguesa is a solid reference and worth the visit. This is a very typical Portuguese dish, influenced by a stew prepared by the roman legionaries when they ruled in Iberia. Be prepared to a heavy and hearty meal. The service is kind and the restaurant offers views of the surrounding hills and of the distant ocean. They also have other traditional Portuguese dishes but the Cozido is the reason why I return over and over again.
