Went to Van Gaalen after hearing about about the their cheese cake..
Pitty the service sucked so bad that I had to get up and leave.
Firstly, we were seated.. waited for about 10 minutes for a menu, then eventually after flagging down a waiter, he sent another waitress to bring the menu... she fetch the menu, but then decided to chat to one of her buddies for about another 5 minutes before bringing our menu.
Then eventually when she brought out menu, it was sticky, I asked if she could maybe while down our table as it was still having stains from the ppl before us coffee and crumbs...
After no one coming to take our order or whipping our table, I asked to see the manager...
She seemed very much uninterested in my concern but said she will investigate and then she just went on with serving in the shop...
I told my wife that I believe we have to leave, which we then done.
Sorry Van Gaalen... I was really looking forward to you guys, BUT due to your waiters and managers attitudes, we have to be moving on.

Once Upon a Time is a function, wedding and accommodation venue, where you can escape from the world into a playful fantasy world in the forest, where the possibilities are endless. We do fantastical weddings, have a quaint restaurant, riverside picnics and a very unique 1928 train in the forest, where you can stay over for a night
Visiting this place was an absolute disappointment. It is old and run down and the food is below average. No this no sign of effort is being made to make improvements, even though a sign says they are. Do not waste your time hereIt is not the plastic flowers and walls covered with cobwebs from the 1800 scene anymore. We have a different vision and know the "old" crowd will not like it and we hope it happens sooner rather then later.

Black Horse offers a craft brewery & distillery with a lovely country style restaurant just outside Magaliesburg in Gauteng, just one scenic hour from Johannesburg. Situated on the edge of the Magliesburg river with lush green fields and majestic black horses, guests can take in the breathtaking views of the Zeekoeihoek Valley area. We offer a craft brewery & distillery as well as a conference venue and gift store. Black Horse is the ideal place for weddings, company meetings, business retreats, group retreats or just a very romantic getaway. Please note we are not pet friendly!
We visited the Black Horse as we had heard about it and were in the Magaliesberg area. It is a really lovely place to "kuier". Interesting beers - some nicer than others. And the food was nice but small portions for the price paid - very Joburg food. I would go back if in the area but wouldn't make a special trip.

Country style eatery - freshly prepared light meals. Breakfast, light lunches ( Quiche, salad, pies, toasties, etc ) Good coffee! Antiques, Vintage clothing, Books and Art. Beautiful garden setting. Child friendly. Private and romantic nooks. Quiet and relaxing. We cater for small functions and weddings from 10 - 60 people. No venue fee. Conference/meeting options. Popular for family reunions, hen parties and baby showers. We also have interesting options for children's parties. Great photo opportunities!
We recently had a light lunch at Melon Rouge and were pleasantly surprised. The food was good and served in ample portions. Service was also good - as the food is freshly prepared it did take a little longer but we were enjoying the ambience...MoreThanks for visiting MelonRouge and taking the time to write this positive review. Hope to see you back soon!

The Main Conservatory at De Hoek Country Hotel offers peace and tranquility in a lovely setting, so any pastime is quiet and slow. Luncheon on a Sunday in the magnificent Gardens has fast become a very popular arrangement and bookings are essential. Wonderful packages are available to stimulate a group of guests or company whilst here. Archery, croquet and walks are available on the property. A helipad provides for the countless fly in arrival and departure by guests, whether it is for business or pleasure. Any type of activity can be arranged for team building and motivation. Wine and whiskey tastings and food pairings are very popular, with Winemakers of fabulous wine estates visiting personally to promote and sell their latest offerings to interested guests on special occasions. This is the ideal venue for birthdays, functions, exclusive weddings, conferences and retirement parties.
We went for a Sunday lunch with friends, because we had stayed there two years ago for a weekend. The food, however well prepared had no wow-factor.The staff were wonderful and not intrusive. The winelist lacked finess and the variety was small. However, overall it was a pleasant experience.

The Garden is a new yoga and meditation retreat and vegetarian/vegan teahouse in Magaliesburg. Just an hour from Johannesburg, in the Cradle of Humankind, our peaceful sanctuary offers a space to reconnect with yourself and with nature, as we gently encourage healthier, happier and more conscious living. Savour a nutritious juice or freshly picked salad, linger over a herbal tea in our riverside teahouse, book a private picnic, take a yoga class or meditation course, or wander in the 44m Baltic wheel labyrinth and meditation Gardens .... Built in harmony with the land, the development makes maximum use of local materials and local community labour/suppliers, and is powered by alternative energy sources.

We were a party of 21, including 5 very busy toddlers for lunch. Understandably the food took quite a while to get done but was absolutely worth while waiting for. The waiters looked after us with care and the table was set with special detail to the fact that it was my mom’s birthday. A lovely experience!

As the key competitor of Black Horse, we expected a good atmosphere, upmarket venue, exceptional service and excellent food. And we got nothing like it at all. There is no menu, the decor is tattered and the prices inflated.
