We were just passing and decided to pop in for lunch. We had the dog with us so I ran in to check this was ok, greeted very warmly by a couple of waiting on staff who explained dogs were welcome in the foyer area. We only wanted a Sandwich and the chef offered a selection of mixed choices on rustic French bread which were delicious. Bailey was even offered a bone and bowl of water. Beautiful building with very welcoming staff, everyone we saw came over to say hello.
As we left we found our battery had gone flat on the car and James cane out to help us thank you so much
We will definitely be back.

Contemporary Bar/restaurant
It’s been many years if not a decade since we visited Avanti.Despite a change of ownership little seems to have altered.
With a a lucky parking spot right outside and a warm welcome from Liam it felt just like a homecoming.
Good unpretentious food and good service standards remain the cornerstone of this restaurant. My only small comment is that I would like to see a bit more excitement on their wine list.Knowing their suppliers that shouldn’t be a problem.

The Sun Inn's AA restaurant features local produce, using top regional ingredients in modern British dishes and with a few creative touches.
The Sun Inn is a great pub and restaurant... one we have used many times over the years.
The menu is now a classic a-la-cart rather than the older formal set tdh. Which is good to let each diner choose a wider range of tastes and costs.
Our table enjoyed all dishes - although almost everyone said the portions were on the shy size. The arancini balls were fab... worth every penny as a pre dinner snack.
House wines a bit expensive for the quality.
The rear dining room needs some piped music or something to give some atmosphere on a quiet midweek evening.
The new team are doing well, and with great respect to other reviewers, there is no benefit in saying it’s not the same as it was ... of course it’s not!
It’s a new team trying to bring a new dining style and loose some of the rigidity and frilly-nes of the past.
I recommend without a doubt.

Staff were very welcoming, efficient and courteous. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and tasteful décor. All three courses were delicious with good sized portions. I have no hesitation in recommending. For my party the only improvement would be some smooth background music. We will definitely return.

Stopped overnight at Plato’s and booked a Valentines lunch.
After a hearty breakfast and a short drive and walk lunch still came a little soon and we were not exactly starving. However the lunch menu is very flexible and had Small Plates and some great starters.
I had the breadcrumbed prawns with a chilli dip and then we both had the small plate of Haddock Fish Cakes and we had a bowl of fries each to accompany the fish cakes. There was a creme Fra Ish dressing and the lunch was perfect. We then shared a sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream ( divine ) good job we shared as it was a good portion size.
Plato’s was a great choice for lunch and an excellent choice of dishes. It was busy and an amazing job was done by Alex who because of staff shortages managed the meals etc on his own and provided great service. Well done Alex.

In brief the food was okay but could have been much better. We went as a party of seven and most chose the Christmas two course lunch deal for a fraction under £20 each. The main course was the traditional Turkey with trimmings: which arrived after 40 minutes artistically arranged in the centre of the plate. It was tasty, but all agreed was quite miserly with regard to portion-management and there was far too much empty 'plate' on show around it. It not good value for money. What a shame. The pudding chosen by most was the advertised chocolate brownie trifle with ice-cream and warm chocolate sauce. It arrived prepared in a large glass without warm sauce and again all agreed that the 'brownie' did not resemble any brownie we had ever eaten, more resembling a stale piece of chocolate sponge topped with a cheap chocolate custard and a layer of tasteless hard jelly. A disappointment. The staff are pleasant and the surroundings are lovely, but we expected a higher standard for £20 a head. We will return for drinks but try elsewhere for food next time we are in town.

This is an excellent bakery with a cafe at the back. Indoor and otdoor Seating. Great food from breakfast to full lunches.
Lunesdale Bakery is two nice things in one. First of all it is a very good bakery with a superb selection of excellent breads and cakes.
Secondly, it houses a really good cafe which is situated in a lovely stone room with atmospheric beams and a warm, cosy fire. There is a relatively simple menu focussing on soups, baguettes etc. as well as the expected scones and buns.
At first glance I thought that the prices seemed a little on the high side but they are not. We shared a substantial bowl of excellent homemade soup, served with crusty bread; and a hot beef baguette which comprised of several thick pieces of tender brisket, served on top of a piece of baguette, with a very generous and tasty salad on the side. We had come in for a snack - and left feeling that we'd had a substantial meal.
Highly recommended.

Great burgers at a reasonable price for the area. I had the Mexican and my partner had a lamb burger. Both came with fries and side salad. Left feeling very full.
