Simple food, simple service, simple place - outdoor Terrace to see the beautiful mountain-sea landscape... but what matters is the tasty food. Not too much to select (normally rabbit, lamb, and something else). Tasty olive oil is done by the owner and you can buy it as well. Tasty tsikoudi is done by the neighbor. You can visit the tiny village above in 10 minutes while waiting the meal.

Organically grown, heartily cooked and humbly managed by a lovely couple, the restaurant is Greek cuisine grandma-style at its best. We were welcomed into the kitchen to take a look at all the freshest ingredients and dishes straight from her garden.
The family takes great pride in their daily fresh selection and yet they retain an air of utter humility as most starters run around 3-4 euro and we could always count on a big slap on the back followed by a warm smile. If this were not enough, it was comforting to see that almost every night there was guaranteed to be a table of locals enjoying the ambiance and having a grand old time!
Will definitely recommend that anyone passing through Xerokambos come grab one of their wonderful (& cheap) rooms here and come get blissfully spoiled every night!

Arrived here after a day of travelling and could not have been greeted with a nicer manager (sorry I can not remember your name), so helpful and accommodating. Helped us book into Kato Zakros Palace Apartments just up the road. Went the extra mile to help us which he did not have to do. Food was amazing and when we asked for his recommendations on traditional Greek cuisine he said to leave with him and we received some of the nicest food we had eaten all week. I would recommend anything from the grill/bbq or clay oven as this is fresh, catch of the day meat and fish, instead of the frozen food they offer, which still is not bad, but fresh is better. overall a great little restaurant, and the fact this has been going since 1982 says it all!

AKRO GIALI this name is indeed right for this tavern that abstains only 5 meters from the beach. It is the older tavern in the region of Kato Zakros, the building that was built in 1898 and had the name Maria. In 1991 Nikos Perakis and his wife, Tania, undertook the tavern and since then they offer with love and taste to their customers genuine traditional Cretan and Greek cuisine. They give big importance to the quality and to all the materials that they use, taking into consideration always the local production and chastity. The oil is from the olive trees of Nikos, the vegetables from the farmers of region as well as the meet from cattle-breeders of region.Kato ZakrosAs long as the fresh fish, it is daily provided by the captains Manolis, Giorgos and Kostas that is given to us straight from their caiques. In the summertime you can see celebrations for marriages and christenings or other feasts that take place with traditional live music and dance up to the morning. This way is given the possibility to the visitor to know the hospitality and the customs of our place. Here, next to the sea, you will find us ready to serve you from early in the morning to enjoy your breakfast or coffee and as the day rolls we serve you refreshments or fresh juice and for the older people a cold beer or ouzo with chosen titbits.Kato ZakrosWhile you are enjoying the crystal waters under the boiling hot helium we prepare for you the lunch as you wish escorted with abundant wine of your choice. In the afternoon you can enjoy your ice-cream while you enjoy the immense light of the blue sea and in the dinner the west of helium that is magic.

We received excellent service and recommended local specialities. The food, setting and wine were fantastic. Try the smoked eggplant salad, the baked feta and vegetables and the sardines. The homemade dips provided on the house were a nice touch.

It is nice here, but this is not really a restaurant but a bar who offers some food, which is not necessarily made by a cook but by the bartenders who warm up something in the microwave, for example. If you want to watch soccer on TV and have a few beers and get hungry, this is the place for you in Zakros, but for family dinner better get elsewhere (there are not many possibilities in Zakros, though)

Love it here. Christina is so nice she explains everything and what the daily specials are, and her husband is a fantastic cook. Try the rabbit he breeds his own and it really is excellent. See you next year.

Our first full day in Kato Zakros, we headed for the beach and parked ourselves in front of this café and got free sunbeds perfect.
After a morning of sunbathing, swimming, relaxing and a couple of drinks from here we then had a really nice lunch. It was a mix of pies Spinach and cheese with some nice chips and salad, oh yes wine, all very yummy.
The service here is great friendly and attentive, played some dominos then back on the sunbeds for a doze, the perfect way to spend a day and a lovely café.

The restaurant ELENA has a history of over half a century. It began as a traditional café in the 1960s and became a restaurant in the 1970s with the arrival of the first tourists in the area. At first he offered a few dishes from the pot of the family, the restaurant owner, cooked by Mrs Eleni or "Elena" as her customers called. Today it has been working with his third generation inside always with love, smile and his family atmosphere. It offers its traditional dishes of Greek, Cretan and Mediterranean flavors, as well as some very carefully selected dishes with flavors that will delight you and will remain unforgettable.
Wonderful Lunch, wonderful people, excellent value.
The food was fresh and the value was incredible for 4 people with a jug of wine, 1 beer and a mixed cocktail. Lunch in total for the 4....and we were stuffed.....32 Euros.
Niiiice!
Thank you for a wonderful lunch!

Tavern Dolphin is located at the main beach of Xerokambos. At Dolphin restaurant - tavern there are many places where you can relax and enjoy lunch, dinner, breakfast, coffee, ice cream, long drinks and more. The delicious menu includes fresh fish, traditional Cretan & Mediterranean food, homemade dishes, and a la minute dishes. All the dishes are cooked only with certified organic olive oil.
This restaurant was recommended to us by another traveler. Located across from the beach, we enjoyed our meal. Just ask the waiter what he suggests & run with that if it sounds good. (He suggested the Okra & the Rissoles which were both cooked in a tomato based sauce the day we were there)
