Ipiales is a city and Catholic bishopric in Nariño Department, southern Colombia, near the border with Ecuador. It is located at around 0°49′49″N 77°38′40″W / 0.83028°N 77.64444°W / 0.83028; -77.64444, with an elevation of about 2950 m. Ipiales is located on the high plateau called "Tuquerres e Ipiales," the city lies at a distance of 82 km from Pasto, the department's capital." Ipiales is known as "la ciudad de las nubes verdes" (the city of the green clouds) because some times, especially in the afternoon, greenish clouds appear over the city. One of the area's favorite foods is the guinea pig or cavy (Cavia porcellus), called kuy or kuwi. The economy of this city is based on border trade between Ecuador and Colombia.

It made a pleasant change to be on a second floor in a restaurant with a choice of inside or out on the deck Seating.
The burrito I ordered was oven baked to melt the mass of grated cheese on top. Inside it was stuffed with peppers, onions, beans and chicken, with guacamole and sour cream on a bed of shredded lettuce on the side.
If your are tired of the smell of food frying, plastic chairs and tables, you will enjoy this restaurant. It is clean, bright with marble top tables outside, a heater and good view of the plaza and church.
The menu has fish, pork, steak, chicken, risotto, lobster in white wine sauce and all very affordable.
Good service. No English spoken but staff do their best if you have limited Spanish.

Old hotel, however service is very good, and location just across the bordee is ideal if you dont want to go into ipiales.

I had gone twice there because of a recommendation. The food was very good, it did not disappointed us. But the last time I went with friends, they made us wait 10 minutes just to take our order, 30 minutes (not exagerating) to bring our beverages. Then after 10 more minutes with no-food we asked the waitress how long would it take to bring our food, and she said 10 more minutes. My wife angry said 'that's what you said 10 minute ago!' By that moment, we just left, even with the apologies from the owner saying that it wasn't their fault because they were slammed. I told him that it was not fair for him to have us waiting for more than a hour for our food, it's already difficult enough for Ecuadorians to cross to Colombia with loooong lines, you just don't want to wait for one more for your food. I paid the juices they served us and we left. Sadly, I would not come back.

Nice athmospere and very good food for a reasonable price. Friendly service without a mentioned propina on the cuenta. But they really deserved a good tip.

Recomendadisimo.
