We booked a Sunday afternoon buffet at Chez Tara for father's day; this was one of the best decisions we have made while traveling through French Polynesia! It was delicious and a tremendous amount of fun, with views to die for. It was literally straight out of a movie set, with all of the food wrapped in banana leaves and served by women covered in flowers, the palest blue slice of sea just outside, and dancers dancing in a traditional manner. There were about 1/3rd tourists and 2/3rds locals, so it wasn't such a tourist attraction so much as a very obviously beloved local restaurant on Huahine.
We ate here several times. Every single thing is excellent. They make great food.
But I particularly recommend the Sunday Tahitian buffet, which is cooked underground in the banana leaves. While not everything is familiar, it's delicious! I had chicken with taro leaves, some type of fish, taro root, breadfruit, delicious cooked and mashed banana, clams in a coconut sauce, and I cannot recall what else now, it was all delicious and ended with cake and dancing!
They make a wickedly good Mai Tai, by the way. And the staff is friendly as can be. Come here and eat and make friends. You will not regret it. Plan to stay for several hours. We stayed nearby, so it was easy to eat here, but it would be worth a trip from absolutely anywhere on the island to come have a meal.
This is one of my favorite restaurant experiences ever because of how different it was, and how authentically Polynesian, plus that beach!

Restaurant Omai is the restaurant associated with the new Maitai La Pita Village Hotel on the island of Huahine. Here is the review I was going to post: Run, don’t walk, here. Or better yet, in keeping with the relaxed pace of the island, stroll in, but whatever you do, do not miss out. The food was surprisingly (for a hotel restaurant, granted this is not your traditional chain hotel) gourmet, with presentation on par with the most expensive restaurants in say, New York or Paris. And the price is good to boot. We intended to eat out a lot more than we did, but were drawn back to try various dishes on the menu. The restaurant is open air and set next to the (very small) hotel pool, on the beach. Service is very friendly and drinks from the Oaoa bar (the restaurant and bar share the open dining area) are delightful. If nothing else, treat yourself to the Vanilla Crème Brulee for desert.
Like everyone else, we loved the setting, particularly at sunset. Also the food is excellent (though not inexpensive). We had the salmon cooked with banana and it is a polynesian delight that we would recomment to everyone. The happy-hour drinks are very south-seas and extremely well priced (until 6:30 when the price seems to double) The cheeseburger for lunch also is excellent and if it's not too hot, you can eat by the pool over looking the beautiful bay. Breakfast (a buffet) is good but very very expensive. Overall, if you want a fine meal in Huahine, this is the place to come!!

Restaurant Mauarii is the restaurant associated with the Pension Mauarii hotel on the island of Huahine. Here is the review I was going to post: One of the few places to eat on this end of the island, this quiet restaurant on Avea beach is a great place to grab a leisurely lunch on a circle-island day tour via rental car. Although the staff do not speak English, there are menus in English and service is quick and efficient. Other than a few guests from the Pension for which this restaurant is associated, you are likely to have the place to yourself. Sandwiches are large and cheap.
Great spot to stop for Lunch on Aveo bay, while driving around Huahine Iti. So nice sitting right on the water and the food was really good! I got a seafood Kabob which was delicious! Their fresh fruit juice cocktail was exceptional. My Husband got the Killer fish Sandwich which came with french fries in it- different! We enjoyed the decor witht he large shells and turtle shell adding to the south sea Island ambience. Next time on Huahine we'll come back here~

New Tamarara is located on the island of Huahine. Here is the review I was going to post: Located walking distance from Hotel Maitai Lapita along the waterfront Promenade, just outside of the village of Fare, this is a must for sunset cocktails and/or dinner. Watch the sailboats bob in the harbor as the sun sets over Raiatea, or tuck into some fresh mahi mahi (made a multitude of ways; if you were hoping to order one of the other types of fish on the menu, be prepared for them to be out of it and suggest the mahi mahi). Portions are large, prices are moderate, and service comes with a huge smile and lots of laughs.
After our first day diving, we were famished and went looking for New Tamarara restaurant which we'd read about about Trip Advisor. After having some trouble finding it, a local told us that it is now the Huahine Yacht Club. Not sure which restaurant joined which but anyways this place was very nice and authentic, located right by the water in an open floorplan with a bar and a sun deck. We had the best Fish burgers of our entire trip-big fresh mahi mahi filets served on round french buns. They were alittle too salty but still very tasty with a heaping side of steak fries. Service was pretty slow but that's to be expected at any tropical vacation destinations run by locals. Just sit back, sip the beer and enjoy the view.

Different "Roulottes" with various culinary specialties: Polynesian, Italian, French, Chinese, Vegetarian... Welcome!!!
There are two food trucks across the street from the Super U supermarket in Fare – one white and one blue. They both offer the same sort of burgers (beef, chicken, fish and perhaps other types) and frites. Soft drinks and water are available, or can be purchased at the Super U. We ate the beef and fish burgers with frites at the white truck and found them good. They come with some sort of tasty white sauce. The blue truck looks dirty and a local friend prefers the white one in any case. We did not try the blue truck’s offerings, but the white truck is certainly satisfactory.

Perfect location in the center of Fare,Huahine. Cafe has a nice view of the bay and internet for a small price. Rooms are shared or private with a communal kitchen. Good place to meet other travelers and share experiences or create new ones together.
Walk to the Yacht club at Happy Hour for a sundowner and stay for dinner or for those of us on a budget journey over to one of the several Roulottes that line the street.

We visited the Yacht Club several times and ate there and enjoyed the food very much. It's a very popular venue with cruisers so be sure to get there early to get a table.
We enjoyed the cocktails and the fish dishes the most. I didn't try the desserts but my partner did and he thought the gateaux not so special but ok, what it lacked in taste it made up for in volume.
Stunning views, service can be slow when its busy but who cares with such a stunning waterside view overlooking the bay.

This was our one slip into American style fast food during our almost 3 week stay in French Polynesia and it did not fail to satisfy. I truly wish American businesses were all small locally owned places like this instead of impersonal, processed billion dollar companies. Food quality would be better, staff would be friendlier and the money is spread out. I truly enjoyed my burger and fries. The shake was not quite what I was looking for. But I do love the coke's made with real sugar. They just taste better.

We stopped by around 2 pm yesterday and it didn’t look like anyone was there. A man came out, asked what we wanted. I said menus and he told me no food, just drinks. I tried asking where my boyfriend should park, then went to speak when him but the man yelled at me to stay inside the restaurant.
It was 1000 xfp for two beers, he said he needed our bottles before serving us seconds which we learned today was to recycle for money.
Not friendly service but the beers were cold. I can’t rate the food since we couldn’t get any.

Nice small restaurant with a very good french cuisine
Totally mellow little restaurant, just up the road from the Maitai Lapita Village Hotel. Clearly popular with locals and families, which is always a good sign. We had a delicious, fresh-caught parrot fish for dinner, and crazy flavorful mango sorbet for dessert. A perfect end to another great day in Huahine.
