The Black Swan Tearoom, located in the picturesque market town of Helmsley in the North York Moors, is both charming and traditional, and offers a fabulous quintessentially English Afternoon Tea experience which even the connoisseurs of Afternoon Tea wouldn't be able to fault. In addition to the traditional Afternoon Tea which changes seasonally making best use of the fresh, local produce available, a wide selection of brasserie style dishes are also served making the Tearoom the ideal place to meet up for lunch or simply just a cup of tea and a chat.
We were out with my elderly mum, re-visiting places the family used to cal at. We selected the Black Swan on a whim, and arrived just before noon and were told that we would have to wait until 12:00 to order food. The staff were very welcoming and made my mum feel at home. Although it was mid-week in February, the tearoom filled up, so booking is advisable at weekends or during the holidays.
We ordered fish pie and coq au vin and had coffee and tea while waiting for the food. When it arrived, the food was well presented, piping hot and delicious.
We were able to take our time, with the servers being very attentive and able to join the discussions.
We decided not to have desert, although the broad selection of cakes and puddings was very tempting.
We really enjoyed our meal, and my mother was made to feel very special, especially due to the attention she received from Mandy.

My fiancé and I visited Verbena Spa this week, we didn’t know what to expect from little Helmsley spa. It’s was a pleasant surprise.
The relaxation room had big comfy sofas for you to put your feel up and completely chill which was nice. It wasn’t luxury but it is homely, which does make you relax.
The spa it’s self had several different saunas and foot spas. They were lovely and clean and worth trying them all. Actually mentioning that the Verbena Spa was spotless. There was no grime or mess or litter. We both noticed how clean it was.
The spa also offered everyone complimentary ice tea.
The outdoor jacuzzi and pool were heating so we could sit out in the January cold which was really nice to do so.
We both had The Rasul Experience. It’s was certainly different. You do it in twos. Really fun to do with your partner. Exfoliation and 4 different muds to massage onto each other. It was a nice experience to do together. I would really recommend it.
If you’re visiting the area I’d 100% recommend an afternoon in this little spa.

We pride ourselves on our friendly, personal service giving all our customers that individual treatment that makes your visit special. We have an extensive menu, serving lite bites, including sandwiches, panini, jacket potatoes, seasonal specials, soft drinks and cake and scones for 'elevenses and threeses' and much more.
Despite visiting Helmsley many times we had never visited this cafe before. However we will return in the future. Very clean cafe with attentive staff. We only had a snack which was excellent and good value for money. We certainly will return for something more substantial in the near future

The Feathers hotel is situated on the market square in Helmsley on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors. The hotel has an excellent local reputation for good food and fine ales. Bar meals are served in the cosy Feversham Bar using the very best local produce, the restaurant serves good English food both at lunchtime and in the evening. There is private parking at the rear of the hotel.

Called in for late lunch my husband had a special toasted Sandwich and I ordered the farmhouse quiche from the specials, it was described as with ham by the waitress but when it arrived it unfortunately had mushrooms in and I don't eat them. However this was quickly changed for cheese and onion and it was lovely. The display of cakes was fabulous so we shared a piece of lemon meringue, yummy.

A few years have passed since our last visit but nothing has changed except perhaps the prices! Same attentive and friendly banter coupled with excellent food. A pleasure to spend time especially if you can secure a table where the roaring fire is.
