We came in because the restaurant had a great outdoor space looking over the lake. The Seating was perfect but the food was really disappointing. We knew the food wouldn't be great but the what they served were totally overpriced. We had 4 people having 4 main dishes and the bill was 125€. Prepare some food before arriving at Hallstat because you wouldnt have many choices.

My girlfriend and I were visiting last month and we randomly walked by this place. It looked interesting so we stopped in. The staff members were all very friendly and we were seated immediately. It is definitely a place where locals go (which is cool) but there were plenty of tourists as well.
We were drinking a few beers and the glasses they came in were very cool. So cool in fact that I asked if I could buy two of them. They normally don't so the waiter said he would ask the manager and be right back. Both he and the manager came and said that I could simply have them for free. I insisted on paying but they would not allow it. They packed them up nicely, we took two more shots of schnapps, and we were on our way.
I forget the manager's name but she said it was a common village name from that area. All in all, this is a friendly place that everyone should visit while in Obertraun. I just hope everyone doesn't start asking for free glasses! ;-)

After several of the local gasthaus' had stopped serving food we saw the only alternative as to go to the Bella Milano, of course in Austria we wanted Austrian food but me and my girlfriend were hungry and we both like pizza so we thought why not, how bad could it be....
The answer: Very bad...
Service: no one wanted to serve us, we had to go up and ask for menus
Decor: dirty table cloths, then the non-smoking room is like a dungeon, dark with no heating
Food: I'll eat any pizza but this was generally one of the worst I've had, the base tasted like cardboard, the cheese was cheap and it was a mess
Summary: this is a very last resort restaurant, don't expect anything decent from this place you'll only be disappointed!

This was definitely a culinary experience! All four of us enjoyed our meals and decided that they were the best German-style meals we'd had in a long time. Our friends were delighted with their choice of goose filled with apples and oranges, my jagerpfandl was amazing, and my husband's deer filets with juniper cream sauce were outstanding. The service was constant and attentive, despite what previous reviewers have mentioned-maybe it's because we were there out of "tourist season"? I would definitely return to this restaurant for another wonderful meal--and stay again at the hotel as well!

Had lunch in this restaurant in our recent visit to Hallstatt and really enjoyed the food.
The service was attentive and our’s was a window table overlooking the lake. Couldn’t have asked for more perfect setting. Although it may get busy during lunch and dinner times so book in advance and mention your preference for the window table.
They proudly serve the local fish which they said is only found in Hallstatt.
I am not a big fan of seafood so I opted for the Chicken Schnitzel deep fried in butter & the wife had a veggie pasta with pumpkin sauce and braised cabbage which she said was delicious too.

Went there on a Monday night and managed to get a table to ourselves. As it was a former salt warehouse and then a brewery and inn, the space with its vaulted ceiling and traditional furnishings was very cosy and inviting.
My friend had a Freshwater fish from the lake while I ordered the Wiener schnitzel. Both were quite delicious and we left satisfied.
Do note however that they don't accept payments by credit card.

The setting on the river Traun makes this restaurant perfect for an outdoor dinning experience in the summer. The food is high quality and well portioned. My wife and I enjoyed this place so much we came back twice. I loved the mushroom risotto with Steak and the seafood pasta my wife had was very good. The Apple Strudel for desert was also very well made and tasty.

located on the main square in Hallstatt, Austria
We group of Indian friends, had a good sea food. Even my Mrs enjoyed it, who normally is very critical of foods :) And for Indians yes it not Indian, please try these which is there own traditional food.

Nice traditional place. The welcome you with bread and salt.
Nice waitress.
Good food but the deer ragout leaves you hungry and the wienerschnitzel was burned on one side but cleverly served with the good side up (in Austria!) .
Good beer.
Reasonable prices.
Ample parking.
No credit cards.

We only stopped for drinks, so I can say anything about the food, but the beer was wonderful. More importantly - the views are INCREDIBLE. What an amazing place to sit and enjoy a beer!
