Afternoons spent sitting in the sun, drinking freshly roasted coffee, laughing with friends, and listening to the birds sing. this is the heart of Greytown. this is the main st. deli. enjoy our fresh home baking, taste our salads crafted from fresh seasonal ingredients, sample a range of artisanal deli foods, and take home a jar of our signature homemade preserves. we've also expanded our deli and given our courtyard garden a gorgeous makeover. head outdoors to the quiet rear courtyard, sit amongst the maples and enjoy all the main st. deli has to offer.
It has been many years since we first visited this cafe, which now sits somewhere between average and good. Located right in the centre of Greytown, it has Seating spread over several rooms and outdoor areas. Most areas are fairly noisy with the front room part of the serving and entry area and the back rooms adjacent to the open kitchen area. But the tables are not all crammed in together so conversation is fine. As the name suggests, there is an opportunity to purchase a limited range of options to take away with you, including some of their own jams and chutneys if you are looking for a “piece of Greytown” for a gift. The individual pies in the deli cabinet are also available to select as your cafe meal, with a salad on the side. There is a menu displayed on the wall above the counter. It is limited and very predictable, yet quite pricey. Cabinet options are also limited. Three of us ate here this weekend, and all of us rated our meals average. I ordered the seafood chowder with a bread roll. The bread roll was very hot on the outside but very cold/part frozen on the inside. The young staff member reheated it for me. We decided not to follow up our meal with the planned coffee so cannot comment on the quality of coffee. Overall, we didn’t feel we had received value for money.

Had a very tasty GF pizza and reasonably price wine. Service seemed a little disengaged. One lass delivered to our table twice with out uttering a word. Food was great but staff lacking vibe

Lots of options in Greymouth, so a shame we chose The Swan. Lovely building and location, but indifferent and lax service let it down. Few were there, but drinks still took 15 mins whilst no less than 5 staff milled around the bar doing cutlery, checking phones, talking. At time to pay, despite saying where we’d sat and what we’d drunk, told “it doesn’t work like that, I’m not looking through all of the orders to find yours.” Some people are not suited to hospitality.

A great range of bar snacks and light meals ideal for lunch/brunch with Seating outside and in. A relaxing atmosphere.

Quick visit to Cahoots, which was chosen purely because of its proximity to our car parking space as we drove to Wellington.
Sampled their mince and cheese pie, cheese scone, a sweet slice and two coffees, all to go.
The pie had great pastry. Unfortunately the contents were bland and insipid, and the cheese noticeable by its absence.
The cheese scone was a scone, but again, no cheese flavour. One wonders if ingredients were skimped, or whether the owners buy a special cheese with no flavour.
Both these items were consumed while we waited for the coffees to be made. And waited. It was lunchtime, but there was a staff of at least four, and the barista was just plain slow. Ours was the only coffee order, and it went ignored for a long time.
The coffee came in a Supreme cup. We like Supreme - usually good roasters who produce a bean with taste. Cahoots manage to extract all the flavour while making the coffee. We suspect that the large drinks are made with a single shot, rather than the customary double.
The sweet slice was sweet. Hint of coffee flavour in the icing, which was more than was in the coffee itself.
Disappointing. Won't be back.

This was our second visit to Cuckoo as we are newly settled in Greytown, and we love this very welcoming restaurant with great value and delicious food. The menu is quite small but what they do is very good and we would definitely recommend it. The wine list is also good and the service is excellent. We will keep going back for more. Thanks Cuckoo and Staff

Stopped her for quick lunch- their French baguettes with REAL HAM OFF THE BONE..not shaved ham were a step back to Paris!
While it was later in the day the range of food in the cabinets as well as the menu superb.
Since returning to NZ my husband has tried lots of so called palmiers but these were the real thing..had to buy more to take away!

We called into the quaint town of Greytown on our drive south.
Considering it was Anzac Day only a few local cafe's were open. This cafe was nice and large, clean and had a good choice of eats and drinks. The food was very nice unfortunately the coffee was just average. A surcharge was in place for Anzac quite understandable.

I must admit this wasn't our first choice of restaurants, but we were very pleasantly surprised.
Hubby's lamb shank looked might impressive, was melt in the mouth and he is still raving about it days later!
The chicken burger was real chicken ( not processed) and not deep fried- tasty and fresh. Our neighbours raved about their hamburgers too!
The service was friendly and professional and made for a great night.
All in all, this is good pub food and definitely worth a try. It's gaining a bit of a reputation and was the busiest place in town on a wet Saturday night.

We stopped overnight in Greytown, on a Tuesday night and were surprised that many of the local restaurants were closed. Maybe Greytown is a lifestyle town.... but we found Aroma India, luckily, and had beautiful fresh dinner, and great service and setting. We hadn't booked...MoreDear guest! We are so glad you enjoyed our meals.Huge thanks for your lovely review and choosing our restaurant. Looking forward to seeing you again soon. Cheers!
