An atmospheric, cozy place and of the most popular gourmet hangouts of Heraklion, since 2000. All these years 'Parasies' -as was the original name of the restaurant- has been opening its doors to foodies in a smaller, intimate and beloved place. Our desire and goal is to combine classic nostalgic flavors and special blends even at the simplest dishes so that we can please every taste. It is a daily challenge and a great honor for us, when guests, as we like to call our customers, recognize and appreciate our culinary philosophy. The quality food, the finest wine labels and a coordinated team, make sure you feel comfortable while enjoying scents, flavors and authentic recipes and offer you and your guests an ideal suggestion for quiet lunches and lively dinners. *According to the Cretan dialect parastia or parasia has been the traditional way of cooking in Crete for many years. A fire was set between two parallel rectangular stones and a cooking pan was put above. Thus 'parasia' was selected as the name of the restaurant, where the open kitchen dominates as a trademark.
I found this restaurant in Lonely Planet and visited it because it was recommended for beef liver, a favorite of mine. It is off the tourist track but central and easy to find in Heraklion. I ate there twice having the liver and grilled mushrooms the first day and fresh sea bass and fava beans the second. Wine recommendations by Haris, the owner, were equal to the quality of the food, and I can be quite critical. This restaurant would be considered wonderful in any city. Highly recommended.

The restaurant is going to be CLOSED from 13/09/16 to 15/09/16
Fabulous tavern, just outside the city walls. Serves wonderful local dishes based on slow-cooked lamb or goat. We arrived at 8 pm, which is early to eat locally, so while the restaurant was quiet when we arrived, it got much busier later. The waiter was extremely helpful in recommending great local food. Really worth seeking out.

A little different from what we tried the rest of our days in Iraklion, Ladokolla was a place we remember for the way they treat food. It was one of the restaurants that we admired the know-how to combine the ingredients together to create something good looking. It was a pleasure only to look at their plates. It means they give a good reason for people to talk about the restaurant as something ‘different’. Well, the plates we tried were tasty as well…

We wanted to celebrate our arrival in Greece, so we wanted a restaurant by the beach but were a little concerned about those touristic and expensive ones. Paralia was a perfect option combining great location, gentle staff, good prices and specially great and abundant food. I ordered a fish and my husband ordered octopus, fantastic dishes. And to complete and reaffirm the cretan great hospitality they offered us fruits, amazing loukoumades, cinnamon liqueur and Raki! The taste of their grilled octopus could not be found anywhere else in Greece, and we tried. Unforgettable.

It was a really mixed experienced. The location is really nice. We order appetizers which were really good. The wine recommendation was also really good and the freshly baked bread was so tasty. But and that a big but, all the meat we order was medium or medium-rare and we all got expect one person a meet which was well-done and that is very disappointing for a meat restaurant. Then we got some issues with the bill and we had to recount it 3 times until we could finally settle it. I believe we might just have been unlucky because this restaurant seems to be a must do but please make sure they cook you the meet the way you asked.

We are a family-run taverna where homemade Cretan dishes are made with fresh, naturally-grown produce. We are happy to be able to share with you what we love, Cretan Cuisine, which is famous for being among the healthiest around the world as well as the one of the tastiest.
Excellent food and excellent service. The owner speaks a number of languages and is friendly and efficient. We had the dolmathes and pork souvlaki [we even took some home] and it was wonderful! The Greek salad was huge and the wine was very nice local wine. A beautiful dessert of fresh fruit with a little Raki was perfect to finish.

Dropped by as a walk-in for lunch, were seated and served immediately. The staff were very friendly and attentive, gave honest recommendations on what was fresh and good on the day, which we had. Food was decent, price was pretty cheap! The goat in tomato sauce was delicious.

We have been visiting this restaurant before catching the flight back home. It's just 15 min from the airport in very characteristic area of the city (fish market). The charming waiter (who looks like an actor from a pirate movie )was very honest saying what was fresh or frozen, upon my request. We took a delicious grilled "dorada" and some fried little fish....plus a giant Greek salad...everything was great! House wine included! at the end of the dinner we had a plate of fruit plus home made pannacotta with raki offered by the restaurant. The best way to end our holiday in this wonderful island!!!
Extremely suggested.
Ps: I don't have the pics of the dorada cause we devoured it!!
