Did not expect to find such great pasta in a tiny town in Guatemala. Everything is so fresh and flavourful. One of the best options you are going to find in this town for sure. You can have vegetarian friendly food but be very sure to specify. I ordered pasta with vegetables and it came with bacon. When I asked if there was meat in the dish they said no, and when I insisted that there was something that was neither vegetable nor pasta in there, they gave me a weird look and said "well, bacon". That isn't meat? They remade me the dish without animal, and it was great, but the owner also was a bit unfriendly, blaming me for not expecting bacon in my vegetable pasta.

La Casa de Don David

Whether you're a guest in our hotel or just stopping by, we welcome your visit to our little piece of paradise. Breakfast is served a la carte from 6:30am, with a variety of options such as the Guatemalan breakfast (eggs, beans, plantains and chorizo), homemade yogurt and banana pancakes. Reservations are not required. There are also several lunch options on our menu, served until 4pm. Dinner is a fixed menu, a typical Guatemalan special every evening with a meat and vegetarian option. Please make Reservations before 4pm of the same day, dinner is served at 7pm.If you are headed to Tikal before we open for breakfast, we can prepare a box lunch for you. Rosita's famous desserts include chocolate cheesecake, apple pie, fried plantains with vanilla ice cream and guava pie made from fresh guavas in our garden. Among our selection of drinks you will find allspice tea, fresh-squeezed pink lemonade and depending on what’s in season, perhaps even Pitaya (Dragon fruit) juice. Enjoy a frozen margarita or piña colada while viewing the sunset from the veranda. The restaurant is open air, with a spectacular view of our garden and Lake Petén Itzá.

We went here to enjoy the Mayan tree ring of fire ritual- they light a flame around a Ceibal tree in the garden. There is a daily special and a la Carte. You need to book in advance. We had the chicken casserole. It was fine but nothing special. The ritual was a bit of an anti climax. Service was good but in Spanish. Menus are in English.

We had the box lunch- decent enough ham and cheese Sandwich, banana and water. There are a range of brekfasts- pancakes and omelette were good. One cappuccino was good, the next day a bit milky. Friendly service.

They have a shop and the ATM here which is why I stopped by as this hotel/restaurant is on the way out if the little one road village. They have a pool and lounge area facing the lake which is great for families. What attracted me is access to the lake for a swim -there is a synergies walk way and then a shady cover to enjoy the clear blue warm lake water and they have a shower nearby.

Restaurant Las Gardenias

We ate one dinner at at this establishment. Probably the nicest restaurant in El Remate. The place is spotless, has a great view of the lake, and the Spanish speaking staff was friendly. Food was acceptable/average... cost a few bucks more than other places.. but again, the surroundings were top notch for the town. We did enjoy the ice cream parlor that they operate downstairs every night.
