As other reviewers have said, this is a traditional-type restaurant with many traditional Hungarian dishes served up in gargantuan portions, but tasty and well-prepared. The decor is extraordinary - more hunting memorabilia than you'll have seen in a while - and the staff reserved but friendly, kind and very efficient.

We visited Il Padrino in the early afternoon with my wife.
The restaurant didnt change anything in the past 10-15 years.
Food is still very tasty. So if you want to order at home Il padrino could be the best choice.
On the other hand if you visit the restaurant you will be disapointed because of the poor atmosphere. The restaurant needs to be renovated!

Our Restaurant, the Macok Bistro and Wine Bar is a jaunty and youthful restaurant where international dishes are presented in local style with wine specialties which can be found only in the cellars of enthusiastic collectors. Our Restaurant is located in the downtown, exactly at the Castle’s entrance. By sitting in our Terrace you can take part in the living history of Eger. We are making foods with the biggest attention and care, and serving the courses in this way to the Guests. We like to call up the traditional, old-fashioned tastes, however we rethink the corses’ appearance. The commodities are from the area’s small producers, who make and breed us the best materials, for example the trout from Szilvásvárad, cheese specialties from the Bükk, homemade noodles, etc. Our goals have reached with reanimating the life in the city and creating a lovable place where generations may enjoy the foods and wines like they are at home, but a business meeting can going by in an informal atmosphere. The restaurant waits children with separate menu and toys, thus parents can relax. Our cozy patio is a famous meeting place for groups of friends and turists also. The patio fill with life when we organize gastronomical occasions. Everybody who take part in this market atmosphere events get unforgettable experiences with tasty wines and special foods. The Hotel (which belongs to the Restaurant) is ideal for travellers who can’t miss tasty wines and it is also perfect for meetings and trainings. We are welcome those who would like to eat delicious foods at Eger, and after that talking even with us on the couch streched out while sipping some wine. Macok is the best restaurant in Eger and rightly so. The interior is stylish with funny wall decor. The food is creative and excellently prepared. The trout roulade was an elegantly harmonious plate. The pumpkin soup was a surprise with bursting with taste. The procini risotto was correct.
The service is professional. Good selection of wines mostly from the region. The place is small, reservation is needed.

We were tired and hungry and sat down at the first empty table we saw on Dobo Square - and boy we found the RIGHT restaurant. Our server Mikesz took great care of us, speaking both excellent English and German. His menu suggestions were perfect. Prices were very reasonable. 2 glasses of wine, 2 large craft beers, 2 entrees was just about US $22. Lovely Seating inside, but we choose the Terrace outside with a beautiful view of the square.
Highly recommend!

I had breakfast here one morning (a nice omelette) and I stopped by on multiple occasions for wine and/or coffee. An excellent experience each time. There is a new coffee shop with baked goods appended to the restaurant—it is called nyamnyam—and it is wonderful. I am not sure what the business relationship is between the two but both are worthwhile stops!

This place is listed as a hotel, but I could not find a separate listing to review their restaurant.
Went here with friends on a warm Saturday in July. The food was OK, but the menu poorly translated to English and the waiters were stressed and didn't seem very happy with their occupation.. Would call this a "tourist trap" and would not go back.

There is little else to say about this place other than it was phenomenal and one of the best pizzas I ever had. Pizzas are about 1400 HUF (give or take) and are astounding. Place is small, so arrive early. 6 stars!!

The place isn't special at all, looks the same as the neighboring restaurants in Szépasszonyvölgy.
The food we ate was fully acceptable although this is not the top place of gastronomy.
(but truly, there are fancy places in the valley which were definetely worse than this little restaurant!).
The wine assortment needs some improvement! It's a joke that they serve only two type of red wines in Eger!!! :(
Nevertheless if you are hungry this is an inexpensive and still good option there! (with simple, typical hungarian foods)

Főtér Cafe Restaurant is located in the Main Square of Eger.
They serve some traditional Hungarian dishes but it is also good for a lighter snack, like a salad or other light dishes. Their cold tomato soup is very tasty as well as the fried camembert cheese. It is located on the main square of Eger, so it has a nice surrounding and it is nice to enjoy some meal outside in the fresh air.

As a tour leader this is definitely not the place to be. It took me 25 minutes to pay. Every individual had to pay by himself. It is a nice place to sit and enjoy a well dressed dish but the beef stew was not lean.
I don't recommend this place. Excuses should have been normal, as well as a free drink to soften this bad experience. All members of my group shared the feeling that at these premises nobody was really welcome!
