Excellent pizza restaurant in the centre of Dokkum.
The owner doesn't fully trust his financial advisors at the Rabobank: Their statistics say that most pizza restaurants in the Netherlands improve turnover for up to six years then go into a steady and terminal decline. However his turnover has grown steadily for over 20 years and shows no signs of slowing down ...
And why is that ? Attention to detail – he keeps old favourites but adds new recipes when he comes across something amazing elsewhere, stays involved in every aspect of his business and chats to the customers to check they’re happy. On a Friday evening (late night shopping in Dokkum) the restaurant was full with a mix of locals and tourists.
Recommendation: Any pizza !
Portions are generous.
Service quick (despite full restaurant) and excellent.
Decor eclectic.
Small mid-range wine selection.
Coffee (espresso) was weak the last time we went.
You may get a table without reservation but then be prepared to wait a while …. make a reservation in advance to avoid the problem.

Looking for something casual for lunch we stopped by this busy eatery.
Lovely staff, friendly, helpful and spoke good English making navigation of the menu easy.
Delicious home made soups and the burger was also very good.
Nice to find beers other than the omnipresent Heineken!
Recommended.

Picture perfect position on the Grootdiep Canal right in the centre of Dokkum. Service is efficient and staff have a good command of English. Meals are reasonably priced and we opted for the Friesian set menu at 23.50 euro.
If the weather is fine do not miss the opportunity to eat outside overlooking the canal.

We walked around Dokkum quite hungry. I wanted a hamburger because I live in Germany where the burgers are horrid. In the Netherlands they are really becoming a gourmet burger competitor with the US. So we kept walking around looking for a place and walked by this cute little restaurant a few times. We wanted outdoor Seating in the shade (it was quite hot that day). Well I found a table in the shade and we ordered their burger with the "baked" potato which is actually like a roasted potato in the states. They were crisp and absolutely delicious. The burger was amazing. The spices were quite unusual but they were so good. It was a perfect lunch and we were so impressed with the staff as well. It is really a cute place and we will definitely stop back there the next time we are in Dokkum.

On a Wednesday evening in October this restaurant only had a few patrons. It was after 7pm and most people in this region tend to eat earlier so perhaps this was the explanation for this.
The wait service was good and the waiter spoke good English. We opted for typical Friesian and Dutch meals and we were not disappointed with either the quality or size of serves. The prices were reasonable. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Dokkum. Meal for 2 with pre-dinner drinks and wine cost around 70 euro.
This restaurant and hotel is situated adjacent to the bridge on the Zuidergracht so I recommend a window table to take advantage of this pleasant view. You really know that you are eating in the Netherlands when you look out onto a scene such as this.

On a Tuesday evening we found this restaurant around one third full. The service was good, the waiter offering good suggestions. We opted for the set Frysk (Friesian) menu which cost a reasonable 23.50 euro. This offered 3 or 4 small serve selections of each course. This turned out to be quite filling and we were very satisfied at the end of the evening.
The atmosphere was such that we ended up in a round table discussion with 2 other tables of diners which made for a most enjoyable interesting and entertaining night. To top it off the restaurant offered all of us a complementary glass of Beerenburg, a typical Fries drink similar to Jenever.
I recommend this restaurant if you are looking for reasonably priced food with an enjoyable atmosphere.

I have visited Stadscafe three times. Coffee has a good quality but beer unfortunately not. The biggest shock for me was hostile behavior of the young staff of the pet! Although the restaurant was empty and the earth are everywhere plain wooden floors, a waitress forbade me and my dog to come farther than the front, where only the high bar stools. I note that I have a small, well-behaved dog... Hostile behavior without any explanation I was very disappointed.
