Glarus is a small capital city and it is not easy to find high-quality elegant dining here. However, this restaurant fits the bill and would be our choice recommendation for friends looking for a special dinner in Glarus.

Location by the end of the lake is great but the service is terrible. We wait a long time to place our orders, after we got out food the service disappeared. It was difficult to reorder more drinks and to pay by the end because the waitress just ignored us. Food was ok, nothing special. Will probably not come back here.

Geo requested for Mitlödi

Went with friends from the same canton who knew the restaurant. For Switzerland, value for money, Bergli is a great deal. Fresh-made, local food with unusually good service.
I had the Ziger cheese(a stronger flavor melted cheese) and tomato topped pork steak with the fresh steamed vegetables, and french fries. My wife had a local wurst that is only made in Canton Glarus. It was served with a white onion sauce, mashed potatoes, and local stewed plums. Both dishes were simple but packed with good taste. Portions were of a good size. We topped this off with the Hausgemachte Cremeschnitte, a house specialty-hard whipped cream between two puff pastry portions, dusted with powdered sugar. Again, simple and delicious.
Even summer evenings can get cool, so a light sweater for a summer time outdoor meal is a good idea.
Sight overlooks a local church where Zwingli was, if you a follower of church history.
Fun location, good food--we'll go back.

Day trip to Braunwald was really made for us by the view, relaxed lunch with quality food and service at reasonable prices provided by the Uhu. It's out of Braunwald village, which is only accessible by a short but criminally steep mountain rack railway ride (inexpensive), and is reached after an easy 10 minute walk from the top station through to green fields (snow slopes in wintertime) with fantastic views into the Glarner Alps from the sun Terrace. Unhurried dining with well cooked food (we tried the Burger and Ziegerhörnli (a Glarnerland speciality) - all to perfection. Seems to be a popular restaurant and well patronised by Swiss holiday makers and daytrippers. Children are welcome. Recommended without hesitation.

lovely mountain restaurant with a panoramic Terrace, quaint interior, good Swiss food and efficient and friendly service. Have never been disappointed in any way. Try the Sennensalat, a Wurstkäsesalat served in a loaf of bread, delicious and very filling.

Urnerboden is a large Alp along the road to the Klausen pass (canton of Uri but Glaris side).
There is a great restaurant on top of the valley (which also offers rooms we did not see). You can get great meals (Swiss cuisine) and Deserts there.
This restaurant is also known in Switzerland as a shottish (Swiss folks music, fast walse) has the name "Urnerbode Kaffi" which is one of the best known as nearly every band plays it.

The combination of both good food and excellent sights made this experience one not to forget.
Arriving at the restaurant patrons are greeted with a view of Lake Klonetalersee sitting at the base of the valley between two mountain ranges. The additional element of clouds beginning to form made the experience even more memorable.
The dishes were delicious as orders were made for veal, steak and pasta using local cheeses. We found the restaurant make it priority to source food from local suppliers, especially cheese, which enhances freshness.
The service was prompt, kind and professional and with views as from the patio, a return stop if in the area again would be definite.

Stopped here for an hour waiting for friends coming down from Klontal over icy roads. Extremely friendly service, nice coffee, local atmosphere, staff and regulars did everything they could to make us comfortable. Didn't eat here but did enjoy the restaurant's friendly warmth.

I went to Nussbuel after a long walk around the Mountains. It was lovely and warm and the staff were very friendly. I spoke English so everyone did their best to speak it to me, and a member of staff spoke fluently so she talked to me most.
It is set between to forest areas, with a view over the valley and towards the Mountains. There is a deck area for use in good weather. The inside has quite traditional wood Swiss decor, with a very low ceiling.
The menu is quite traditional Swiss, I had a Bouillon Soup and then Kalbswurst with Rosti potato, then Gugelhupf! And a hot chocolate.
It was raining when I arrived so they gave me an umbrella for the walk home, which they would pick up later.
It is apparently always open according to the staff.
A really nice place to go for lunch on a walking day.
