It is a small, agreeable local restaurant. Foie gras and chicken liver starters quite good. My wife found the frog legs decently prepared. Still trying to find the iconic Bresse chicken and cream sauce, I gave it a try; adequate but nothing special. We both thought, however, the Dauphinais Potatoes were magnificent. Full from too many days of full blown meals, we opted just for coffee. It seems hard to find really good coffee in this country. Here too.
I don't like to be critical of hard working and nice people. This restaurant is competent, but this is France-and we expect more. The restaurant offers many different "menu options", the net result of which offers discounts for various combinations.

Facing the Royal Monastery of Brou, favorite of the French Monument , L'Auberge Bressane open every day except Tuesday. "The pleasure of the table is reflected sensation born of various factual circumstances, places, things and persons accompanying the meal. "Brillat-Savarin
Unexpectedly, we were seated at a table whose chairs were placed looking just the opposite side of the marvelous Royal Monastery of Brou.
The quality of the consumed meals, not being bad, does not justify the final bill. For instance, the “poularde de Bresse” was just a little above average.
The service was mostly unprofessional. Prior to the arrival of most of the clients, the staff were talking to each other all the time. That doesn’t help early diners like me and my wife to get a good impression.

Went here on the recommendation of our nearby hotel, who made the reservation. Well laid out dining room with bright, minimalist decor. Lovely menu and leisurely service. I had very garlic flavoured snails and then the regional speciality, Poulet de Bresse, very tasty. The dessert was unusual - Creme Brulee with pistachio - mmmmm!

This little restaurant is opposite a magnificent church in Bourg en Bresse. The staff were very nice and enjoyed helping me with my very basic French. We ordered the local special - dumpling in a seafood sauce, it was delicious. Every course was delicious and the wine delightful. We will return one day.

My sister and I ate there en route on advice from the hotel. Lovely typical atmosphere. Food was excellent...beyond what we had expected. Service was attentive, friendly and efficient. We would go back there any time! Thoroughly recommended. Excellent value.

The food wad solidly good, the decor OK and the serving owner very nice until the very end when we had to wait and there was a billing error: all acceptable and understandable, except for the unexcusable reaction of the owner towards a guest's comments. I still give her the benefit of the doubt, but she should avoid keeping people waiting and making billing errors.

This is a small and seriously creative restaurant on an ancient, and somewhat grungy street. There are four or five small and cutting edge restaurants in a few block area. Perhaps the low rents and narrow premises are a good place for young chefs to earn their stripes.
There is an almost Japanese sensibility for making each dish gracefully plated as well as tasty and complex. Four or five "menus" offer an economical way to try many of the chef's specialties. The wine list is impressive for such a small place, and the prices are appropriate for the calibre of selections. Savoring a fine Merurey Rouge, we opted for the cheese plate-and there was a lovely selection of 5 or 6 distinctive varieties.
This is mid to upper range dining-and worth it. The ambiance is a bit spartan, but mosrt people are here to try some very fine cooking and are less interested in atmosphere.

Le Midi Cuisine Familiale, Menu Du Jour À 14.50, Formules A Partir De 12.50€€ ( Pas De Carte) Le Soir Menus À 22.50€ Et 29.50€
A very good place in the heart of Bourg-en-Bresse. A talented cook proposes interesting and non-classical dishes for a decent price, and the waiter is efficient, friendly, and helpful. I strongly recommend dishes with the Bresse Gaulouise, the local chicken breed considered as the most savory in France.
And for those who want to know what the name of the restaurant means: it's onomatopoetic for "La cage" (the cage), which might refer to the barbie doll in the birdcage close to the entrance.

Very enjoyable, well cooked, proper restaurant food at a very reasonable price (25 euro for the more expensive menu) good wine (about the 20 euro mark). A younger (but not noisy) clientele than the Fleur de Sel a few doors away. Starts to fill around 9 pm, so don't feel nervous if you are first in at 8.
