The colorful Norwegian city of Bergen is also a gateway to majestic fjords. Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf will give you a sense of the local culture – take some time to snap photos of the Hanseatic commercial buildings, which look like scenery from a movie set. Don’t breathe too deeply when you visit the outdoor fish market, a reminder of the city’s role in early fish trade. Ferry across a fjord to Lysøen, where the former villa of 19th-century composer Ole Bull will captivate you with fairytale charm.

Staying in Bergen for just night we were Reading a lot (the White Guide Nordic 2017 is a great read) to choose the best restaurant experience in Bergen. As the post suggests - we went to Colonialen. Great choice.
We went for the large tasting menu (9 dishes), regular tasting menu (6 dishes). Even though the original menus seemed not fit for vegetarians (somenof us were), the team made it possible to enjoy the meal also for them! Thumbs up for such responsiveness and creativity.
I was pleasantly surprised about the number and quality of compliments coming before the food we actually ordered was delivered. There were 4 compliments - step by step guiding through the restaurants approach to good quality food. Curred trout with crispy buckwheat and seaweed was amazing!
As to the menus - i enjoyed all of them. My least favourite combination was oysters and cabbage - the taste was to acidic (subjectively for me). Crab bisque, pan pried cod, duck breast and "snickers" cake were amazing - dishes to remember for a long time.
The staff was very professional and kind. It is always nice to get very good service but without "white gloves" attitude. Special compliments to sommelier - we felt very well taken care of and the glasses never empty.
Definately coming back to Bergen maybe just for THE restaurant!

Great quaint restaurant- cozy and feels like rooms in a house. Seafood is excellent and came highly recommended from the front desk at Radisdon Blu hotel. Hubby got whale appetizer and fish and I had scallops. It was nice

We have been told it is the best restaurant in town. The atmosphere was good but service was average. The weighted wasn't very friendly or attentive. My friend dish had only 2 scallops for 135 kroner. That was a bit of a shock. You would think we are in a desert. Pork belly was all fat. The weighter did ask if we wanted somethinf else but we didnt feel like paying extra. Also a disappointment. Wine was quite nice though. But hardly the best restaurant I town.

Just outside the City of Bergen, you will find one of the most exotic attractions in the whole of Western Norway's archipelago. Cornelius is one of Norway's best seafood restaurants. It is situated right by the sea on a small island with spectacular views of the fjord, Mountains, Skerries and passing boats and ships. Inspired by the weather of the day, Cornelius serves its famous Meteorological Menu of exquisite seafood and trimmings, prepared using innovative culinary techniques and with a genuine passion for seafood. Cornelius is open all year. On beautiful summer days, we open the sliding doors and set up tables on the pier, where we serve lighter dishes. When the weather is less favourable, we create a cosy atmosphere indoors and serve food with stronger flavours and light up the candles and the fireplace. Every season - every day - we offer unique and exciting culinary experiences on Holmen. Experience a beautiful trip among the Skerries, from Bryggen wharf in the City of Bergen to Holmen at Bjoroy. Regular departures at 18.00 from Dreggekaien on Bryggen (shed no. 8) opposite Radisson Blu Royal Hotel and Clarion Collection Hotel Havnekontoret. Return from Holmen at 22.30. The boat trip takes 25 minutes. Warm, safe boats take you back and forth in comfort, - regardless of the weather. Please contact us if you want to charter a private boat. During the summer months we have regular departures for lunch Thursday, Friday and Saturdays.
This seafood restaurant is quite amazing. We were a party of 12 and had a meteorological menu with perfect wine to match every dish. All courses were served to perfection. It is difficult to recommend a dish as the menu we had is based on...MoreThank you, we appreciate your kind review and we are pleased to read that you certainly enjoyed your visit. Welcome back!

Bare Restaurant is a fine dining on the third floor of historic Hotel Bergen Børsen. Serving 5 or 10 -courses, wine or juicepairing optional. Includes a luxurious bar open for the public between hours of 17:00 - 01:00 monday til saturday.
Went here with two colleagues to celebrate a successful year behind us. All in all a delightful fine dining experience with incredible tastes and top notch service. As always one can critique portion sizes at these kinds of places but that's for another day.
I would recommend eating in the bar area as it has a brilliant atmosphere compared to the traditional dining rooms.

Bien Restaurant is a neighborhood bistro/restaurant situated just outside the city centre of beautiful Bergen. We serve delicious seasonal and regional food, our wines are all organic/biodynamic. Take the city tram to Danmarksplass and enjoy an outstanding evening in our old art deco pharmacy.
We went back again. Two years since the last time. It was well worth visiting again. The food was good, maybe not extraordinary. Good wines and good service.

We hardly found this restaurant. But when we found it... what a joy! Loved the fact that it has no signs (I mean NO signs) on the street. We just had TripAdvisors address on the phone, and of course we had to make a guess. We found it! Lovely place in the basement, rustic and small. A huge choice of wines stretching from about 25 Euro to around 800 Euro..!! Cheese and wine - of course a winner! Two kind of pizzas if cheese don’t cut it.
The personnel, at least the one we met, was super. After some cheese and pizza (and wine and of course some beers), we hit the outside for a sig (no comments!) and we found a backyard with underwear for dry that my grandmother used... fantastic :)
A place that really got me smiling :)

Restaurant 1877 opened in january 2013. We are located at Kjottbasaren, a historical building in the heart of Bergen. Our menu follows the season so that we can use the best raw materials, that are available. We put a lot of focus on the local producers in the area, and to the norwegian traditions around cooking. We serve shellfish, fish, meat, cheese, and dessert. From there you can choose if you would like to have a full evening with the 5 courses, or would prefer a half evening with 3 courses that you choose from the menu. 3 Course dinner - 595 5 course dinner - 725,- Winepackage is 435 for 3 course dinner, and 725 for 5 course dinner
Travelling to Bergen, I booked this restaurant having read wonderful reviews. I was not disappointed. A visit is not just about the gastronomic experience, but the entire evening itself. Each disgustation serving is prepared by a different chef who personally comes to the table and...MoreWe are grateful to read your excellent review and we are pleased to hear that your expectations were met, and maybe even exceeded. Let a taste of Brazilian excitement spice up your everyday life, for special occasions or professional gatherings. Your friends here at Brasilia can offer you an authentic Churrasco experience, in true Brazilian fashion! The concept stems directly from the southern region Rio Grande do Sul – which is where the world’s best meat is produced. We are honored and pleased to serve some of the best barbeque cuisine Brazil has to offer… in the same way they do it in Brazil.
Our family of 5 really enjoyed our dinner experience here. We liked that fact that you could opt for the all-you-can eat 10 different meats option (with unlimited trips to the buffet for accompaniments) or simply order just chicken, turkey/bacon, or steak with a single trip to the buffet--all priced fairly. The chicken, beef and unlimited meats options were all delicious--cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and efficient, and we appreciated the lead chef (Portuguese) stopping by our table to make sure everything was okay--he was nice enough to give us some Bergen sightseeing tips as well. Typically these Brazilian BBQ places are priced super expensively and you therefore end up overeating to get your money's worth, but honestly this was actually very "reasonable" given how expensive everything in Norway is to begin with. Essentially, you could get the chicken option with one trip to the buffet for around $25 and the unlimited 10 meats and unlimited buffet trips for around $50, which is less than we've spent for very average meals during our 10 day visit to the country. All told, we recommend this place for a satisfying dinner and a nice change of pace!

Trekroneren is a local institution that lives up to its positive reputation. The name translates to "three crowns" which was the original price of the stand's viennese sausages. Be aware the prices today are considerably higher. Located on King Oscars Gate, just up the street from the fish market, the humble red building with the overhead yellow menu board is easy to find. While the stand offers 24 different sausages, the reindeer sausage is the one most tourists choose to try, with the standard toppings of mustard, lingonberry sauce, and crispy onions. If this is your fist time, know that the sausage extends a few inches from either side of the bun, is juicy, and has a nice snap when you bite into it. While tasty, I personally prefer the more spicy reindeer sausages available from carts in Anchorage, Alaska. Do try the lingonberry sauce but know that it is a bit sweet. Finally, you should also know that Trekroneren is a take-away stand. That is, there is no Seating (indoor of outdoor) which means you eat your sausage while standing next to Trekroneren or walking down the street. But don't let that stop you. Give it a try!
