Having read some excellent reviews about this interesting restaurant we stopped popped in for lunch and were not let down. We enjoyed a wonderful meal in an unusual and interesting location. The staff, dressed in monks robes, were friendly and attentive. The menu was varied and interesting. Food was really delicious and nicely presented. The portions are hearty so there is the option on some of the dishes to have a small serving which some may find ideal for lunch. Our only regret is that we were not able to visit for dinner when we could have enjoyed our food with some local wine and spent a lovely leisurely evening at Monchshof. Not only is this a great find but the town of Bautzen is a joy to explore. We would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant or visit again if we have the opportunity.

I have taken three trips to Bautzen since 2011, two of the latter being partially based on returning to this very restaurant. Nowhere in my experience (not terribly extensive in Germany) have I found a place with 2L beers, mainly the largest is the dimpled one liter traditional German steins. Anyways, the food has always been great at this restaurant and the fact that they offer a 2L beer is a total seller and for a considerably reasonable price as well. Definite must for lunch or dinner if in Bautzen and conveniently located. I will say the last time that the service was lacking. They seemed somewhat relatively busy, but it also seemed like they may have been understaffed and this resulted in approximately 35-40 minutes for us to receive our rather simple order. I was more than halfway finished with my 2L beer by the time the food arrived. A definite scar on an otherwise good experience.

We felt like something a little exotic after travelling a number of weeks in Europe and this restaurant seemed to fit the bill. The Beef Vindaloo and Chicken Marsala were pretty good but not really up to the standard of similar Indian restaurants we have eaten at. Service was friendly and helpful despite them not speaking English.

Special Asparagus menu on offer at time of visit which included another specialty rabbit option . slightly disappointing as rabbit overcooked but still well put together dish . Service a bit slow for lunch time but busy waitress was very friendly and did her best.

This is a typical German restaurant with a small twist.
The dishes were very tasty, excellent prepared. The small twist was the mustard (famous in Bautzen) that is added to some of them:
- we had a mustard soup and mustard goulash
The interior is very nice and cosy and the service professional.

Lucky me, i got In without reservation. This resaurant is just some steets away from the Market Square! (walk the street uphill from the Market Square and turn the first alley to the left).
Pleasant staff. Tiny restaurant with two small rooms/ corridor and a Terrace In summer. No wonder It is always full.
I started with scallops on aspergus salad. A real treat what did not needed any balsamico dressing. But that was separate on the plate. Bread with ruccola dip was nothing special.
The classical main course Aspergus with Hollandaise sauce with Parsley pátatoes was good but better quality of aspergus can be found In Germany but maybe not around Bautzen. The strawberries icecream with wodka, at the end, not bad.
So the best thing was In the impressive start.
Not to forget the excellent heavy red wine Lagrein at 8,20 € the glass at the start (compared to the sligjtly disappointing desert wine (5,20€).
So for sure they van cook here, but I hope they find better suppliers for Aspergus:
They deserve that.
