What a find...we almost walked past since the signs are not very prominent.........hostoric, delightful, interesting beautifully cared for. We had teacakes, scones, hot chocolate and tea...all delicious, lots of home made cakes on offer as well. Wonderful service from knowledgeable staff. The menu also contains information about the history of this unique building. Thank you...can't wait to return.

Visited here just before Christmas for a lunch time treat. We weren't disappointed. The welcome was, as usual, very warm and friendly. We had a few starters to share (there were three of us) including the bruschetta, mozerella e parma, some garlic bread AND a wonderful selection of seafood (yes we were going for it - well it was our Christmas girls lunch out..), it was delicious. I then managed the cannelloni - yum! All washed down with some Prosecco, couldn't have been better. Unsurprisingly I couldn't manage a pudding... The staff were so lovely, it really is service with a smile. Thanks again SI and happy new year ☺

Charming and full of character 15th Century Inn, dating back to 1490. Situated at the heart of the village of Whatlington, on the A21, just a few minutes outside Battle and the seaside town of Hastings. With a wealth of original features including the large inglenook fireplace, the 80ft indoor well, quirky oldie-worldly interior and private large beer garden, The Royal Oak is the perfect place to meet up with friends and family. With a passion for good food, specialising in Greek cuisine and many popular international dishes, the Royal Oak offers a great venue for a quiet meal, family day out or a special event, in its stunning Function Room. Children are welcome and can be entertained at the indoor and outdoor play areas.
Had a Sunday lunch very small slither of meat in not a big water but I went home hungry larger portions would be lovely but until I hear otherwise we will give Sunday lunches a miss staff and pub lovely

What a delightful restaurant for a special occasion. The staff are friendly and attentive. The restaurant is intimate and cosy on a cold, winters evening but I can imagine that it’s equally delightful in summer. The taster menu is an excellent introduction to the type of food served by the restaurant and it was nice to sample different produce together with a wine specifically chosen by the restaurant to go with each course.
I look forward to trying another Taster menu in the summer.

In the area for a weekend break and went to the Netherfield Arms for its vegetarian menu at Sunday lunch. A good choice for both vegetarians and meat eaters! Beef fine along with the veggie patties. Pleasant surroundings and service. No complaints though wise to get there early for car parking. Would certainly revisit when nearby again.

Had passed this pub many times but had never actually been in so 3 weeks ago we stopped for a drink after a 7 mile cross country walk. It seemed a really nice traditional pub with an atmosphere & the food looked good as well.
So,I booked a table for last Sunday. Full menu was available but we opted for *The Carvery*. Excellent choice...superb meat...the slow cooked lamb was mouthwatering.
Prices are not at the cheaper end of the spectrum for a pub but are completely reasonable given the quality. 2 pre lunch drinks, lunch itself for 2 & a bottle of wine £50. This place is a little hidden gem & definitely worth a visit.

"Ice Cream and coffee shop open to the general public and makes its own ice cream and sorbets on the premises".
Again am a repeat visitor here, best ice cream I have tasted anywhere and always a new flavour to try. Some of my favourites being, salted caramel, pistachio, Turkish delight and only seen once liquorice. The staff are friendly, the owner is always around and can be seen making the ice cream which is brilliant. Always clean and tidy and good value compared to the nearby chemically tasting ice tea shops.

The White Hart is a privately owned family-run free house pub, offering a beautifully presented menu of locally sourced and selected dishes. Our classic pub menu is backed up with a daily specials board offering further seasonal choices. We hope diners think our menu suits all tastes, with fish and vegetarian options always available. The White Hart welcomes children and well behaved dogs, (or is it the other way round!) so we are a popular venue for walkers enjoying the surrounding countryside and the excellent network of footpaths. The pub also offers an alfresco dining area under our covered pergola, with far reaching views towards Beachy Head, over a large sweeping Panorama of the Vale of Ashburnham immortalised by the painter William Turner (1775 - 1851). Parts of the pub can be made available for private functions subject to availability and timings. For details of forthcoming events or to book a table, please call or look on our website.
28 'poor' or 'terrible' reviews is not a good sign, and sadly I am going to have to add to the collection.
The management needs retraining: we booked a specific table for a special family event, but when we arrived we were given a table half the size and met with a shrug and no apology. When we pushed to get the table we had booked, we were met with a surly/borderline aggressive response. The junior front of house staff do try their best but talking to them it was clear that they operated in fear of those above them.
As for the food: forgettable and poor. 80% of our table had issues with their meals, and when anyone queried we were again met with a a surly and negative response, almost as if it was the fault of our taste buds.
In short, a lovely space with glorious views, but cannot be recommended. A shame.

The Ash Tree Inn is a small but busy country pub, in the middle of Ashburnham. We pride ourselves on fresh home cooked food and great service. We have a great selection of Seating and a fantastic beer garden with a great view.
Beautiful country pub tucked away down lanes in the small village of Ashburnham. Excellent welcome from the bar staff and great variety of locally sourced food on the menu which changes regularly. Food cooked to perfection and we all enjoyed our food (all three courses!!)

We are a 100% Gluten Free Restaurant. Booking is advisable especially if you are travelling a reasonable distance to visit us.
The waitress we had was absolutely lovely, unfortunately I didn't catch her name but she was welcoming, attentive and knowledgable.
We waited almost no time for our drinks and the starters were absolutely delicious, and the main was beautiful. I had a lovely port afterwards and my partner had a coffee but although the food was incredible the best thing about it was the staff, a credit to the owners.
