We had an excellent dinner in Casa Velha. The staff was helpful and very nice and the food was great. We had fresh codfish fried fillet with cockle rice, it was fantastic. The white wine sangria was very good and also the desert was tasty. If you are in Lousã go have dinner here, you won't regret.

We live in Arganil and go to this restaurant weekly. It is a simple restaurant with a menu for 7 euros per person. That includes a soup, main dish, desert and wine. Very tasty food! The restaurant is small, a family business, and many locals go there. Every day is a different dish.

A Estrela da Mo

Welcome to A ESTRELA DA MÓ! The restaurant opened in May 31th, 2008, in Vila nova de Poiares, with the purpose to combine the traditional food, taste and personalize service. Our restaurant has a high standard service and a top quality menu and it can be prepared to any event planed in advance. "A Estrela da Mó" is a family business and is surrounded by a comfortable and rural ambient, with a room for 85 person. This establishment is one of the oldest in the village, it's been always know has "A Mó". When the restaurant open, i've decided to keep the name and add my mother's name, ESTRELA, becoming the name that everybody knows these days. All of our specialties have a great meaning, for example the barbecue chicken "Armandito" is dedicated to my father, because he worked on the grill in another restaurant about 30 years. Other specialties are the "Naco na Telha", a tender peace of veal meat on the grill, "Bacalhau á Estrela da Mó", "Bacalhau on the Corn Bread" and the regional "Chanfana". Along this years we have been awarded with some prizes, for example the "Best Chanfana 2012" by the Confraria da Chanfana, in 2013 we've got a "Honor Medal " at the national competition "Melhor Arroz de Portugal" (best rice in Portugal), and later in that year we got to the final of Schweppes Challenge, with a Gin and tonic with Red Fruit and wild Berry's , and now it's a apart of the history, so it's always available for our clients. In 2014 we've won the "Melhor Arroz de Portugal" with a Rice of Mushroom's and Wild Rabbit that we have on our menu, pre order hour before so we can prepare with more love.

This is probably the restaurant with the better service and atmosphere in the area, still remaining very informal and unpretentious.
The dishes are elaborated and well presented. Generous portions though.
Prices are higher than in neighbouring restaurants, but still very reasonable.
Our steak was tender, but too cooked, although we asked to have it 'rare'.
One of the two dinners we had there we also tried the cataplana, which was very nice, abundant in fish and shellfish, shrimps, crabs and one lobster. I recommend to try it even of the sea is far away..

We have been going to this restaurant most weeks for about 5 years.
That in itself should say how we like it.
The truth is that the choice in this area is not that good.
However although the chickens they serve have got smaller they still cook them perfectly.
This restaurant has made its name by selling a fair price chicken piri piri. But you should also try the fantastic Salteadas and the Bucho.
Hope to see you there soon.

Lagar Do Alva

Yes, a wonderful location by the river - dine inside the amazing and atmospheric old mill or outside on the Terrace overlooking the water. However, the food was average and very over-priced. We had a meal costing 30eu each which was really no better than your average Portuguese menu costing less than 10eu. The starters were ok but lacked the normal olives and butter for the bread...and cost 6eu per person. The main dishes were large and acceptable but nothing special and, at 12-15eu, at least twice their true value. The chips were soggy, the salad pathetic (lettuce & tomato swimming in vinegar), the greens stringy and inedible. The dessert we chose, creme brulee, was poor quality - nothing like the real thing but thin and slightly lumpy. This is the only Portuguese restaurant we've visited that's taken on the disgraceful English habit of charging four times the normal price for a bottle of house wine, instead of serving a carafe for a few euros.
Altogether a great disappointment. This is a restaurant that sells itself solely on location and ambience; it cannot be recommended for the food.
