The restaurant is going to be CLOSED from 13/09/16 to 15/09/16
Fabulous tavern, just outside the city walls. Serves wonderful local dishes based on slow-cooked lamb or goat. We arrived at 8 pm, which is early to eat locally, so while the restaurant was quiet when we arrived, it got much busier later. The waiter was extremely helpful in recommending great local food. Really worth seeking out.

Lovely restaurant, surly waitress, quite pricy for the food they served. I had the most insipid, flavourless pasta dish ever ..... however the dessert was amazing ! They have stiff competition from the restaurants in the square who offer a more straightforward value for money option .

We read the reviews and arrived expecting something special... we ordered 5 dishes but only 4 arrived! We waited a while for the courgette balls, assuming that they would arrive.... they didn't. Having ticked our requirements on a menu sheet we felt that there could be no language issues.
Eventually I went to the back of the restaurant to enquire, as we had not seen anyone for some time... there was only one other table occupied, so no excuse of being busy.
We were offered complimentary desserts, but I gather this was usual from the reviews...
Maybe they are just a bit jaded at the end of the season, but we were disappointed as we only have limited opportunities to eat out in Crete. The food we received was OK, but nothing to rave about, I can only think that some of the reviewers had had worse food elsewhere in Crete/Greece!

A very nice, upmarket restaurant located in a small town outside of Heraklion. Traditional Greek food, some dishes are cooked in a wood oven.
I asked TripAdvisor for this restaurant to be listed. I only went there once, in the winter. I wish I lived closer to Skalani. Excellent service. Food fire, and modern but warm decoration. They cook a lovely pork dish in the wood oven (maybe just at week-ends in the winter), and I don't even like pork (usually). Anyway, we had booked a table on a day when the wood oven was not usually lighted, but they lighted it just for us and cooked that delicious pork dish I mention above. I suppose they have tables outside in the spring/summer/autumn. Ok, it is a bit outside of Heraklion, but this restaurant's quality is well above most places I have eaten at in the area and Heraklion.

Lovely, responsibly priced restaurant right on the main square. Enjoyed a delicious selection of hot and cold plates, including stuffed zucchini flowers and meatballs. The waitress was really friendly and helpful, and gave us a traditional Loukoumades dessert to try - which was freshly-made and absolutely delicious! Perfect spot for a leisurely lunch. Would definitely recommend - the best restaurant we visited whilst in Crete.

Nice coffee shop come restaurant. Located by the Lion Square Fountain.
Saw others eating what looked like an encrusted sweet rice pudding - ordered one minus the cinnamon - absolutely delicious with a nice filter coffee to accompany it.
Free wifi - excellent connection both indoors and outdoors. What a refreshing place. Loved it.

"Elia kai Diosmos" is a welcoming restaurant, starring the award-winning chef Argyro Barda, who welcomes food lovers from all over the world since 2006. Unfold the secrets of cretan and mediterranean cuisine and enjoy unforgetable moments in Skalani, Crete.
It was a surprise to see such a welcoming place among the small towns in the hills. We were on our way to Boutari Winery and made a mental note of the location (plus it looked like the only decent place around). They graciously welcomed us (family of 4 with 2 kids) in for a late lunch and guided us towards some amazing dishes...Fennel pie, cuttlefish, and the most amazing lamb we have ever had (super juicy and tender!). The cook has such attention to detail and is clearly proud of his work, and should be. Our meal was not overpriced at all. He was also incredibly personable and suggested some travel ideas as well.

Heraklion's premier venue for cocktails, wines, excellent Meditterranean food with Cretan inspirations and live jazz in a unique setting in a beautiful lounge or outdoors with a view of the pool.
I stayed at the wonderful Galaxy hotel and the first night ate at Vetri. I don't know whether there was a misunderstanding with one of the waiters who was somewhat difficult to understand, but I ordered a medium rare filet mignon. It was not a very good steak to start with but it was also cooked well done. Two of my other nights in Crete I dined at the other hotel restaurant, Per Se, and was absolutely delighted with the service and both meals. In fact the sea bass I had the first time was so good that I ordered it again, and found it cooked differently but equally delicious. There is also an excellent view overlooking the beautiful pool.

Stopped by for a quick drink after getting of the bus at Knosos Palace to see the excavations. Friendly service and reasonably priced (for so close to a tourist attraction). We did plan on coming back later but time got the better of us
