The Austrian Landzeit chain of motorway restaurants is superb, and puts most other European let alone Anglosphere highway service centres to shame. Like the similarly excellent Rosenberger chain, they are always spotless, offer a big range of food including fresh salads etc, civilised Seating and the cute local touch of staff in national costume. This one is particularly stylish, located in a fine (probably two centuries old) two-storey building (see photo) with lots of antique decoration including old photos. Also, views of snow-covered Mountains. We enjoyed excellent coffee, sandwiches and grilled vegetables. And unlike the usual case in the German-speaking world, free loos!

Maestosa Johanna Maier celebrates in the tiny world of a village in Pongau at 1,000 meters altitude the great, grand world of high cuisine.
This place has such a "ruf" or reputation that I simply had to try it, the restaurant itself is beautiful, classy and stylish. The service is excellent if a bit pretentious. The food for the most part lacked that certain something, and I have eaten a number of the best restaurants in Austria, not to mention elsewhere. There is also no set wine accompaniment so you end up paying a small fortune when you have had your aperitif and wine with each course. If I pay a small fortune I expect the best, sadly, this was not the case, my husband was of like mind. There was just something missing, taste wise. otherwise it was lovely.

We don't stay at this hotel but on a sunny day love to sit at the outside tables with a drink and watch the skiers coming down the slope opposite. Martin the waiter is very friendly and welcoming, so much so that we returned 3 or 4 times during our holiday last week.

Winterstellgut located high in the Dachstein Mountains near Annaberg is one of those magical places. Breathtakingly beautiful with majestic views. On a bright sunny day sitting on the patio enjoying a sumptuous meal, simply divine. The cuisine matches the location in being superb and outstanding. From the delicious soups, excellent salads and appetizers to the delicious mains. Not to be missed are the outstanding Deserts. The Kaiserschmarrn was one of the best I've had. In true Austrian fashion, the service and staff are very warm, welcoming and attentive to your needs. Overall, a must to visit and enjoy the magnificence of the surrounding beauty and outstanding cuisine.

We know this restaurant well, having visited it each year we have skied in Filzmoos since 1988. We always make sure we pop in especially for our favourite tyroler grostl, a frying pan of potato, cabbage, red onion, bacon and topped with fried egg. Good for kids lunches too. You won't be disappointed. Sometimes booking recommended even for lunch.

Our is redarder for its local traditional delicacies from the Salzburg land of culinary delights. In keeping with the philosophy of the gourmet region in Austria, we offer a number of distinctive regional delicacies. The high quality of our dishes is a long-standing tradition with us, as even in Roman Times our country guesthouse was a tavern. We attach great importance to the fresh preparation of our dishes. We use only first class and natural products from the local region and corresponding to what is in season. The herbs which we use to refine our original and traditional delicacies even come from our own herb garden. Our landlady is a trained nutritionist coach. Conscious and healthy nutrition are therefore not just empty words for us. She pays careful attention that only the best ingredients find their way into our dishes. Therefore we are able to prepare our dishes almost entirely without using flavour enhancers.

The small town of St. Martin is ideal for beginners and especially families with kids learning to ski. The restaurant is next to the skischool and the Knabllift, the meeting point for all skiclasses. The kids have lessons from 10:00-12:00 and 13:30-15:30 and in the one and half hour lunch break families generally troop into the Da Moare restaurant.
As my kids mentioned: "It's a good restaurant mom, because when you order you get your drinks really quickly!". And this is absolutely true. Service is quick and cordial.
The menu contains a large selection of pizza's, but Austrian traditional food as well, such as Schnitzel (though pork, not veal), Rostbraten etc. There is a children's menu with easy to remember names as Hansel and Grettel (sausage and fries), Speedy Gonzalez (children's pizza) and spaghetti etc. As I did not want to eat only meat the whole week, I opted for a grilled chicken breast salad for a couple of times, which was a great choice. So don't be afraid if you're not big on pizza or meat. I did find the pizza's a bit heavy on salt if I had to criticize.
For dessert there was applestrudel (and some other choices), which though I did not try it myself, I was told was good.
Another positive thing in my opinion was that when my kids ordered hot chocolate the temperature was adapted to not so scolding hot so they could drink it right away. Little touches like that make it a very agreeable place for families.
Don't expect a very fancy place, nor a traditional Austrian Gasthof type restaurant, but a great place for lunch when skiing, that provides quick service, is clean and not too expensive. For lunch with two adults and two children including drinks we spent about 45 euro's. Expect maybe a bit more if you order more drinks and/ or alcohol.
BTW Pizza's are Takeout too.

if there is something i don't like in Austria is the break from 12 to 15 and the early closing times for every business. this is not applying to Gasthof Post. i liked the food from there and also the waiter. he had a funny sense of humour. the place is very nice and the prices are fine.
