The restaurant is placed inside a former top hat factory (actually, true) opposite the banks of a lake near the bridge leading to the island zoo. However, the interiors reflect a slightly dated Italian restaurant. The service was outstandingly friendly and very attentive. After we placed our order, we were served a complimentary aperitif style drink and a complimentary small dish (in our case a vegetable and egg terrine). My starter was a tomato soup. It was well prepared and tasty though providing an extra portion of whipped cream captured in a fried pasta grid in the bowl appeared slightly dated. The mains were generously in portion size. I had a classic saltimbocca nicely seasoned and tender. Even though the ham would have been nice and crispy it was drowned in sauce. The salmon was battered and deep fried but it was tasty as everything else on the table. In sum, it felt like a timewarp into the past with genuine silver cutlery, proper dishes and the respective service. The interiors showed that this was on its way down. Even though the menu appeared somewhat dated and exhibited a tendency to deep frying, the food was nice and tasty in the end.

We stayed in Altenburg for four nights and spent two of them having dinner at this restaurant. The food was delicious, very reasonable prices and such wonderful hospitality by the owner. We could not wait to return and again was not disappointed. Good choice of food and such a lovely ambience!!!!! Would not hesitate to recommend it

At 10 AM we tried making online Reservations for five people. At 2 PM we called and the online reservation had not been registered. We made them by phone. When we arrived, they tried to seat us on a table without table cloth, with paper napkins, and wooden chairs. When we announced that we are visiting from the US and would like to sit on the comfortable leather chairs, we were told that those were not available although all of the chairs were empty. Supposedly they were reserved. The waiter argued with us and insisted on Seating is in an uncomfortable corner. We left and dined at the Restaurant Roßplan instead.

Had pizza for lunch, was ok, lots of choices on the menu, but not spectacular. Seemed a bit pricey but friendly service.
