Rather than eating at the parador itself we walked across the street to a very small local restaurant. We both had seafood dinners which were excellent. My starter was the soup of the day (yum!) and my wife had the mixed salad (huge and very good). The food was local cuisine and was superb, but the best part was the waitress/owner who is absolutely charming! She runs a very warm and tasty restaurant! And the price was incredibly low (two dinners with wine and bottled water for under 30 Euros). Obviously we left her a big tip!!

We were looking for a restaurant that was open on a monday for lunch (90% of shops and restaurants were closed). A shopkeeper recommended La Pousada and it was a wonderful surprise. Great food, extremely nice waiter, and you dine next to 400 year old wine barrels. Worth it! 80 euros for 4 people with starter / dessert / coffee.

We ate here on our first night and were so glad we did. We were greeted with a complimentary glass of sangria to toast the fiesta de Sant Joan. Once seated we chose from the set Spring menu at 30 euros. There was plenty of choice in each course. We chose the aubergine stuffed with vegetables and goats cheese for starters then the pork stew and the beef entrecôte as mains. All were excellent and the service was second to none. The atmosphere was charming - a lovely bright room with paintings and alcoves. The only negative was a loud and rowdy party of diners who didn't know how to behave in classy restaurant - but that is not the Parador's fault!

My least favorite meat during three week holiday in Spain. Arrived at the restaurant a 22:00 and it was empty until we left at midnight and this was a Friday night. We had the "Gastronomique menu" which we found expensive for the quality we received. Service was inpersonal and unfriendly ...not rude, just not friendly and cold.

We arrived at 9:30 to find the restaurant empty, lights off and soaless. The waitress and owner gave the impression that we had disturbed their quiet evening. Service was sultry. Wine list good, but limited if you want white or rosada. Food was really poor and didn't reflect the description in the menu (Spanish and English). We were very disappointed as the rating and description of this restaurant bore no relation to reality. I would never would recommend this restaurant to anyone. What a shame.

There are numerous tapas bars around Plaza Major but Chiri is worth seeking out. The wine is very good and inexpensive. The Tapas (free with a wine or beer) are outstanding. Try the Cievro (deer) stew or the liver casserole, each served in a little clay dish with bread. There are a number of vegetarian options too. There are also larger portions if you want to make a full meal of it.
What also makes this place is the staff. It is family run and it is probably one of the most friendly places I've found. Jose the owner is most helpful in explaining each of the tapas to you, sometimes resorting to a English translation menu.
If you are in Almagro don't miss this traditional gem

This was a great spot. The bartender made us the special bereneja even though the kitchen was not open. His daughters worked along his side. All were charming. The father showed us photos from the campo where the original Ibericos had settled.
They food and drinks were delicious. The patio was inviting and the hospitality of the man and his two hijas was some of the best I have ever found in Spain.

Bar Restaurante Casa Toni, a typical manchego corner in Plaza Mayor de Almagro, near the Corral of Comedies, where you can sample a wide "cuisine" and a very special "tapas". Summer Terrace, coffee bar and sky lounge. Welcome.
Have not tried their food.
This bar / restaurant is located at the Town Hall. Took a drink and studied the people sauntered past

Came here for dinner and we were so happy and wanted to try more of the menu's offerings that we came back for lunch.
Our waitress, Rose, was delightful and between Google Translate and her English, we had a great time. Everything is delicious!
At dinner we ordered the cod with molasses, the house made partridge pâté, chicken & cheese lollipops, and crispy pork with Almagro pickled eggplant. They have a small, but nice wine list with local wines by the bottle and glass. Edouardo, the owner, who speaks Spanish and some French, came by the table to talk to us about his restaurant, which he opened three years ago.
When we came back for lunch the next day, we were treated to a complimentary starter of tripe and chickpea stew. After that we ordered the partridge and white bean stew, fried eggs over ham and potatoes, and foie gras with Pedro Ximexez reduction with raisins and fig jam. Edouardo came to say "buenas dias" and brought a gold medal Manchego cheese for us to try. Our light lunch turned into a feast!
Can't recommend this restaurant enough. They deserve being #1 and I hope they continue to be everyone's top choice in Almagro.
