We drove from Portimao to Coimbra and decided to stop here for lunch. It is out of the way and it is in the middle of the countryside. But once you enter, the pleasure begins. The food is excellent and different. We had pigeon, rabbit pie and octopus. This is a 5 star restaurant and not expensive at all. Highly recommend it.

Everything was perfect until i felt the smell of a cigarette.
They allow smokers inside when there is an esplanade for such "dinner destroyers" with the smelly mist. No way!!!
Ah, payment only in cash! fortunately there's na ATM nearby.
Nevertheless the cuisine is esquisite! Very recomendable!

Porto Santana is a feelgood restaurant from the old school. Nicely located along the Sado river with very pleasant service and constant quality. The clam soup , steamy hot, is amazing, the magret de canard like in France, the grilled sole well prepared and daily fresh. This is the place where I feel at home! Bravo, we will be back soon!

We came across this restaurant by chance when the place that we had planned to eat in Alcacer was closed. How glad we were! Right on the quay overlooking the river the restaurant was full of Portuguese but there was one waitress who was happy enough in English to help us with our choices, crucially explaining that the size of the main course portions that we had ordered made a starter unwise! We shared a Picanha steak platter served with Gambas, fruit, spiced rice, salad and fries, huge amount, very tasty and very filling all washed down with a very rich Alentejo wine. Sadly no room for dessert either.
Would highly recommend this friendly place for anyone looking for good food in Alcacer.

So we were back today. Our fourth or visit. I list count. It's 1 hour drive from home, but I will happily do it to eat at O Ninho.
Fair enough, we have only tried Arroz de Lingueirão, every single time, but it is always excellent!

We were driving north from Algarve to Lisbon and wanted somewhere to stop for lunch. Alcacer looked a possibility and proved to be an attractive town on a river. Most of the restaurants at this time of year seemed empty and we looked around for something that looked popular. On the hill up from the river we found O Nene, full of local families. Nobody spoke any English but we were shown the fish on offer. We chose two dorado (sea bass) which were quickly cooked in garlic oil. They were delicious and fresh, served with potatoes, bread and a salad of cucumber, roasted peppers and tomato. We washed it down with a carafe of local wine. Dessert was a version of creme caramel and a tart that looked like Bakewell tart with nuts on top. Excellent value.

Simple place in poor surroundings - nice waiter/owner and food is nice but same what you get everywhere else.
Due to the low turning of goods I suppose that most meat and fish is frozen.
Exceptional house wine from Herdade da Barracinho in Alcácer do Sal.
Prices around 7-8€ for the main which is on lower side in Alcácer where the nearby gold Beaches of Comporta / Troia keep some restaurant prices to Algarve level...

I had the chance to try every seafood on the menu and I loved "salada de polvo", "sapateira" and the toasted bread. The chocolate mousse and "trouxas de ovos" are amazing too. Good place to eat and drink!

The restaurant Brazao was founded in 1976 in an centenary building that bares a coat of arms (or Brazao), in the beautiful river side city of Alcacer do Sal, in Alentejo. Brazao is a family restaurant that provides high quality traditional food, with a warm and welcoming family-like service. Brazao is known for several dishes such as the Fish Soup and Brazao Stake, that helped build it's reputation since it's foundation. Restaurant Brazao vision is to keep delivering the best traditional food in one of the most gastronomically-rich regions of Portugal: Alentejo.
Walked past this restaurant at about 5pm, and took a look in as the door was open. Lady approached us from outside and advised that she opened at 6.30pm. We looked at the menu, and decided to go.
Arrived at 6.40, doors open, only to be told 7pm, not open yet! Not a big deal, we popped off and got a drink, then returned.
Service was very slow, and very inattentive as we were the only people in the restaurant! We waited at least 20 minutes for someone to take our order!
Both chose Black Pork, which was OK, but fries with it were almost cold, and served on a cold platter! Salad was nice, but overall we left disappointed, and will not be back.

It is not fancy as all the other restaurants around Comporta, Pego or Carvalhal, but this was a very nice surprise. Great food, warm staff, the fisherman ambiance made this trip well worth it. And it is close from a unique in Europe, Historical Harbour: the Palafitte port of Carrasqueira. Beautiful Place!
Highly Recommend !
