Really great challenging hike all uphill. Would say it's a intermediate hiking trail, not too hard but also not easy. Had to take several breaks. Took roughly 4-5 hours to complete including breaks. The view is amazing on the second summit. Highly recommend !

Garibaldi Provincial Park

Garibaldi Provincial Park is a favorite destination of outdoor enthusiasts: it offers a range of hiking opportunities from lush alpine meadows, wildlife viewing opportunities, alpine flowers blooming in lush meadows, and hikes ranging from a few hours to a few days using map and compass. Garibaldi Park has an interesting geological background as it was created by volcanic action which created the formation of many of the parks peaks; the Black Tusk, Price Mountain, The Table, Mount Garibaldi, the CinderCone and the Glacier Pikes just to name a few. Lava from Clinker Peak is responsible for the creation of The Barrier. Behind this natural dam 300 metre deep Garibaldi Lake was formed.

We did the gruelling hike up to garibaldi lake with our camping gear, but spent two nights at the lake which was amazing. Such a beautiful spot, even more so once the day trippers have left for the day (or in the morning before they are up). There are cabins to store food away from your site and keep it safe from wildlife which is a bonus. Many sites have wooden tent pads which are nice to keep out of the dirt.
From here you can do many more hikes! We went up to Panorama ridge (challenging in the snow closer to the top) which was a good hike but unfortunately the skies were too hazy for the views that day. You can also climb the black tusk which we didn't have time for.
Overall it's 9.5km to the campground at garibaldi lake (took 3.5 hours up with our 40lb packs, but only 2 hours down), and then a 7.5km from camp to Panorama ridge one way. But the elevation is high. We felt the air thin out on our way to the ridge.
This park is amazing and we wish we had time to explore more of it!

Porteau Cove Provincial Park

Reviewed By coalharborvan - Vancouver

The walk in camp sites are terrible. Tiny with zero privacy, no fire pits and no picnic tables. They stick communal areas right beside some of the sites so you get even less privacy. Kids running around constantly make it feel like you pitched a tent in a playground. Filthy stinking outhouses. A major highway runs beside it AND a railway track. Trains go by in the middle of the night making the ground shake. There is no peace and quiet here. Busybodies stick their noses in your business while you are on your own tent site. Worst walk in sites ever...needs a compete redesign.
