We have visited Datça area multiple times, yet had not heard or read of this site. Our hotel suggested it as something different to see. The small village and beach where it is located is picturesque, from the first views on the hills above right to the actual site. The view, coupled with the story of the girl and the sand bar make it enchanting. Being the end of October, cooler weather, we chose not to go wading on the sandbar. And our timing was good for picture taking. Several jeep tours arrived and immediately the area was full. I think in warmer months it must be very crowded. That being said, it is worth a visit. We enjoyed a cup of tea at one of the water side cafes, soaking in the sun and peace of the area. However, because it was past the "season" the choices of food and drink were very limited.

We called here to have a drink and a swim whilst staying at the Marina in Orhaniye. The bay itself is beautiful and the children fancied swimming in the pool rather than the sea for a change. We had 7 soft drinks - costing approximtely £18 which seemed very reasonable. For this price, we had a lovely view, with a pool to ourselves and use of the sunbeds. We were hoping to go back for a meal but didn't get the chance - however we will definitely visit on our next trip.

We've done several kitesurfing holidays with various companies. We booked a couple with this company but didn't feel that the organisers really did anything. We would have had same holiday if booked everything separately by ourselves. Locations were good but not much help in other ways

Mugla Museum

This is a tiny museum set around a courtyard near the Cultural Centre. Entrance is free and it is set around a sunny courtyard full of ancient statues. There are only four rooms and each has a different theme showing the history of the area. There are some good fossils and some beautiful pottery and textiles. However, the room I found particularly moving was the one containing the tombstones of gladiators who had died in combat. The translations of the tombstones describes their names but also how they died (and in one case whether it was a fair fight). A very real piece of history.
