This horseback event goes back over 1,000 years and has been designated an important intangible folk culture asset. Three "units" are formed from the regions respectively associated with each of the Sanmyoken shrines (Somanaka Mura Shrine, Soma Ota Shrine, and Soma Odaka Shrine). Then, on the first day, the night festival sees a traditional parade from the horseriders and a race. On the second day, a 3km retinue parades around, and there are armored battles on horseback. In the main festival event, the pennants thrust into the sky loom large as each team tries to capture the others' flags. For the third day, horseriders lead bare horses into a bamboo enclosure in the shrine grounds, and a small jockey dressed in white performs a feat of capturing running horses with his bare hands. The horses are considered a "gift" to the shrine, and these various events are believed to be the origin of votive pictures donated at shrines, as those plaques originally bore images of horses.
Must-See Festival! It is hold last weekend in July. First Samurai warrior on horse march into the field. Next they race on the course in the field. At last after the sound of HORAGAI , trumpet shell, and the God flags are sent up, they try to get it. They wear the armor and helmet. There are some female. The festival is worth seeing.

Tourists can sample wearing Yoroi (samurai battle armour) at the Meijōkan. I subsequently wrote the following about my experience there:
“Meijōkan 銘醸館 in Minami-Soma City offers a rare opportunity to dress in FULL historical dress, including undergarments, waraji straw sandals, tabi, as well as replica armour. Most opportunities for wearing armour don't provide the whole experience, and so you often see tourists posing in kabuto with denim jeans on. It was interesting for me to see how the full gear both restricts (sacrificing flexibility for protection) and facilitates movement. Plus, I can say that wearing correct undergarments makes wearing yoroi much more comfortable.”

It's City Museum located in Soma area, Fukushima prefecture. Nature, History, Anthropology and Folklore... but the major subject is "Soma-Nomaoi". (Very traditional event with horse!)
