The Gibbon Experience

Reviewed By Joe D

The treehouses and zip lines were amazing and our guide Thong Chanh was very knowledgable about the jungle and stopped to tell us about the different plants. We also felt very safe the whole time with him as our guide. The waterfall experience was great because we had full days of trekking/zip lining. The waterfall however is very small - but the whole experience more than made up for it. The treehouses we stayed in were not common to see Gibbons so on the last day, our guide took us specially to other treehouses to try to spot some gibbons, which we did- very far in the distance. Overall if was a fantastic experience. Although as we were on a budget, it was pretty expensive. Would recommend only if you can really afford to do it without compromising the rest of your trip.

This is a delightful experience, from pre cruise arrangements to the actual journey. Our guide Si was very friendly and informative. The river scenery is very beautiful, with regular glimpses of riverside settlements. Sadly very little bird life along the river. Also plans to build a dam upstream of Pak Beng could end this very special experience. The town of Pak Beng is a delightful stop over. The food on the boat was very good and generous portions.

We had a lovely day with the boys while kayaking on the Mekong. We requested to come with them to the market, where they let us taste all the food and bought what we liked! That was a very nice start. Kayaking on the Mekong is a nice experience, the boys told us everything we wanted to know about normal Lao life. Had a great day!

Wat chomkao manilat

Visited the wat before going for the Gibbon Experience. The long flight of stairs was a nice warm up for the Gibbon Experience. The wat was fairly simple and nothing mesmerizing as those in the larger cities. But the view was great at the top. You can see majority of the town from here. Recommended to visit because this is like the only thing to do in this town.

Project Kajsiab Laos

Cultural Exchange & Volunteering, Women's Workplace, Shelter for Care and Informal Education, Woman Empowerment shop, Restaurant & Homestay run by the Mountain people.Kajsiab is a local Lao-Hmong community initiative, located northern Laos, Bokeo Province aiming to empower the local economy and improve the well being of the Lao mountain people in a meaningful way. Be aware that this place is not a fairytale, it is a tough place where people are learning to become self sustainable and overcome their past trauma. Children get personal care and education in the local way, which is not a travellers way. Open your mind and realize that you will see a screenshot of some people who have a whole lifetime of moments to learn and heal. What you see here is not only a result of our work, it is most of all the process during our work.Your being here helps the people to be proud of their work and helps the project to become fully self sustainable and independent of rules and funding abroad.

A great human experience with Laotian people from the montain. A wonderful dutch women and her lao husband have founded this place to welcome mothers, most of them divorced, with their children. A great place to help them and live with them for a period in Laos
