The largest city in Switzerland is a major contemporary art and shopping destination. Important artworks are displayed in the Kunsthaus and the Rietberg Museum, while those who consider shopping an art can hone their skills along Bahnhofstrasse and Niederdorf. Chagall's stained glass windows in the Fraumunster amaze and Zurich's 500 clubs and bars, including several in swimming pools, pulse with life 'til the early hours. This city on Lake Zurich has excellent public transit and a free bike rental system.

You can walk up or take the Little ride from Zürich main Station. The last bit to the top do you have to walk, but you'll be rewarded with amazing views over the City, the lake and the surrounding area. From here you can walk further over the hillridge

We took a ferry ride on the lake. Cost only 5 CHF per person surcharge on top of our day travel card. Such good value and highly recommend and a Cheap day cruise option - The ferry that we took was a 1.5 hour loop of Lake Zurich. Warm interior cabin (was close to zero degrees outside) and hot drinks and light meals available for purchase.

This fantastic art museum displays Western works since the 1600s and has an especially impressive selection of modern art.
Definitely worth a visit for art lovers, particularly of 19th & 20th century art. Spaces and art are beautifully presented in buildings that flow nicely together and within easy walking distance of Limmat in old city. You can easily spend several hours there, including special exhibits.

Zürich's historic section features cobblestone streets, a variety of small stores and restaurants and many of the city's most significant religious landmarks.
The old town is just across the river from the main train station in Zurich. It is convenient to find a hotel and catch a train in the morning. There are many restaurants from different cuisines and night clubs. I noticed many adult night clubs for this area. One can walk along the middle streets, people watch and just stroll to spend the time. The area seemed fine and safe. Did not see much of a police presence though. The hotels prices seemed reasonable for Zurich. Beware though, the prices are pretty high in Zurich compared to many places in Europe. Just the way it is. But, it seems tipping is not expected, which makes the prices a bit less pricier.

Lindenhofplatz is a nice quiet park, overlooking the city; where Rietberg Museum is located.
The Lindenhof is a hill in downtown Zurich. In fact, the place was a Celtic fort, later turned into a Roman military camp (Turicum), from which sprang the city of Zurich. Enjoy the view over the Limmat River and onto the Univiersity and ETH buildings.

This art museum is the only art museum in Switzerland that focuses on non-European art, and has a substantial collection from Asia, America, Africa and Oceania. It's also located in one of Zürich's most beautiful parks.
We went over for an Alice Boner exhibition opening. Arresting photos. Took me back to a whole different India... It was getting dark, but the trees around the museum seemed very interesting - almost like a Botanical Garden

«People who know animals will protect them.» Up above the city of Zurich, spanning a surface of approximately 27 hectares, is Switzerland’s largest and most frequently visited cultural and educational institution: Zoo Zurich. The popular nationwide excursion destination wants to get people interested in animals and encourage them to play an active role in nature conservation and the protection of species.
My son and I visited this zoo soe years back on several occasions (including a birthday party) and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Recommended as a day trip for young children while visiting Zurich. Tram stops very close to entrance. Be prepared to spend the day on your feet... Don't miss the bat-house and march of the penguins in the midst of visitors (at specific hours only).

Winter sunrise captured from the city Bridges would be a good fit for the Real Surreal exhibition of the Avant-Garde Photography masterpieces currently on show in Museum Bellerive in Zurich. Like pictures from a dream world using the new kinds of compositions and perspectives, photomontage and staged scenes, early mornings in Zurich offer a chance to rediscover the range and multifacetedness of the city between the real and the surreal.

I loved just sitting up there and relaxing for a while. There’s always so much activity and things going on, and it makes great pictures which is a plus!

Decided to go to the museum because it was free entrance. attached to the Zurich university, is a nice, neat, interactive and complete, for its size, display of animals. For tourism purposes the problem is that everything is in German, so if you don’t speak the language it only remains see the museum but not interact or inform.
