This open air museum recreates a Dutch village with wooden houses and windmills dating from the 17th and 18th centuries.
Just a short drive from Amsterdam is this historic village that showcases true Dutch heritage.
A picturesque village in the Dutch countryside with working windmills and cute little houses nestled along the waterfront. I loved the small bakeries and specialty stores that sell typical Dutch treats such as home made "stroopwafels" with a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
It was fun to see how they make the world famous "wooden shoes" that are still being used by many Dutch farmers today. Definitely worthwhile visiting. You can go by car, bus, train or boat.

Paintball Jungle has been up and running for more than 25 years. We have 12 different playing fields. We do Paintball, Laser Games, Redneck Games, Commando parcours and more! We also organize stag parties, children parties and corporate events. For anyone who would like to eat after a game we have barbecues, sandwiches, chips and much more. We also have a wide range of specialty beers and drinks.
We were a group of 14, everyone loved it.
The guide Leon(I think?) was great constantly cracking jokes, and very safety focused. He made the experience really easy and pleasant.
We played some matches 7 vs 7 against our own party and we were asked if we would like play against another large group so then 14 vs 14 against the other group.
We swapped stags at one stage, one dressed as superman and one as batman.
I'd recommend it.

One point to Paintball Jungle: Fresh cold water is very important. We were asked to buy small bottles at €2 each but only 4 bottles were in the fridge the rest would be warm. They offered to fill a jug with tap water if we would open a tab?!
I think if we were given a table with water and asked if we'd like drinks we would have stayed, but that didn't happen so we left.

Come and experience our beautiful "Zaanse Schans" and hidden canals of Zaandijk. Join us either for a day or sunset tour over some of Noord-Holland finest wetlands. Our private boat will guide you off the touristic trails into remote locations that can only be accessed by boat. Join us for a unique experience only few get to enjoy.
Heath picked our family of 5 up in his boat Boatavia at 10:00, right from our bed and breakfast in Wormerveer. We had a lovely ride down the river to the Zaanse Schaans area. It was very nice to see the windmills from the water. The kids had a great time, and our 13 year old even had a hand at steering the ship! Very pleased with the service received for the price paid.

This museum is housed in a building in a nondescript street in a residential area across the river Zaan from the "Zaansche Schans". However, visiting the museum is worthwhile, Several nice scale models of Dutch windmills are exhibited, with extensive explanation of the working of the saw mill, paper mill, oil mill etc. Also part of the museum is an enchanting Panorama painting of the river Zaan landscape of the 19th century with more than 200 windmills, which existed then. Musing over this landscape, I realized again how lax we are in preserving our Dutch heritage. On the first floor of the museum building an exposition was established of collectibles from the life and times of the heydays of the Zaanse windmills. Well known names, as "Honig" came to life. This museum is to be recommended.

The Rijksmuseum is the museum of the Netherlands. The completely renovated Rijksmuseum tells the story of the Netherlands from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. Including works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, Frans Hals, and more! Most famous is Rembrandt's masterpiece the Night Watch. A new display of the collection, a renewed building, new public facilities, a revamped garden and a new Asian Pavilion. Open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.
Amazing collection of old masters: Rembrandt, Vermeer, etc. Good 19th century artists with present exhibit, High Societ ( worth looking at) with a Munch and Sargent, etc. Hire a privateguide for this gem if you can swing it...

This is the lumber mill showing how trees were turned into lumber for ship and house building. Take the time to sit through the short video at the beginning, then go onto the floor of this working lumber mill. Use caution and stay out of the way of both machinery and workers. Do watch them cutting the trees into boards. The views out the back doors are also worth a look.
