I'm a big French folk fan and love the singing style of the late great George Brassens - his famous songs much copied by our own Jake Thakery.
This small musee to Sete's local hero is a great way to spend an hour or so. It's a bit out of town but easy to get to even without a car. It's on bus route 3 - a journey that costs just over a euro.
There are several themed rooms to different stages in Brassens life and the multi lingual audio guide automatically picks up the commentary as you move around. Lots of artefacts of his life are on display and copies of the songs you hear as you move around available for purchase in the gift shop at the end - including his most famous La Gorille.
My friend and I found it so moving that we couldn't resist paying homage to his memory by visiting his simple grave (and that of his life's partner) just a few hundred yards along and across the road in the well signposted local cemetery.
If you like like French chanson style music, this is a little trip not to be missed.

If you are valid, it is worth climbing from the Corniche/Beach or from the city Centre and the views will reward the climb.
The nearby building has an observation Terrace on the roof, which is free, do not hesitate to climb to have the best view of Sète.

Wonderful venue, reminded me of the beautiful Minnack in Cornwall, UK. Well banked, so easy to see the stage, not cramped, perfect location (see how close the catamaran in the sea is, in my photo) and very easy to walk to from beautiful Sete main town. We went several nights in a row to watch the Worldwide Festival Performances and it couldn't have been more perfect. Fantastic bar and large flat area with excellent views at the very top. We're going back, it was so good!

This museum was a bust! With no audio guide or signage I. English it was impossible to comprehend the exhibit. This seems very inhospitable to english

Saint Charles Cemetery, on the southern flank of Mount Saint Clair, is a huge cemetery with more than 3000 graves. It has been renamed ‘marine cemetery’ (‘cimetière marin’ in French) in honour of the French poet Paul Valéry (1871-1945), who was born in Sète and wrote a famous poem about Saint Charles called “Le cimetière marin”. Valéry is buried here together with his grand-father Giulio Grassi. Saint Charles is far from a depressing place, it is quiet and atmospheric. It is certainly worthwhile to climb to the top of it to enjoy the spectacular views on the sea, the harbour and the fortress below, with the impressive rows upon rows of white gravestones closer by. Makes for great pictures.
There are several interesting or touching monuments like the tomb of Vincent Cianni (1895-1960) representing the year-long champion of the water jousting tournaments (still held in Sète each year) holding a trophy and two typical jousting rowing boats. Stonemason Georges Capetta (1863-1944) is represented with the tools of his trade at the entrance of his funerary chapel, while his wife is watching on.
The cemetery is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. (October – June) or to 7 p.m. (July-September).
Contrary to what many people think, the popular French singer songwriter Georges Brassens is not buried here, but at Cimetière Le Py looking out over the Thau Lagoon

Our group of cruise passengers was walking Sete and the staff offered additional ideas that we had not previously gotten off the internet. Their maps are easy to read and some of our mature group enjoyed the AC and sitting while we asked questions. The staff remained friendly even after being asked the same questions 4 times in 10 minutes. This is the place to get accurate friendly information.

This quirky gallery is well worth a visit. Both the permanent exhibition of art from found objects and the temporary exhibition on a transport theme but with a difference were worth spending time at. Some amazing exhibits.

We discovered this gallery on a stroll along the old port of Sete. This is quite an impressive modern gallery and as others have stated...its free! This gallery displayed awe inspiring pieces of artwork. I am not usually a fan of contemporary artworks but the displays here were very unique. This was one of the highlights of our short cruise stop in Sete.

We stayed the last weekend of July in a near by hotel and came primarily for the beach.
The sand is mixed with shell, so it's a bit stubby.
There is a place to rent parasols and chairs (7€/12€ half/full day). A small bar serves drinks and food, doubles as a restaurant in the evening with a live music band. Very basic though - plastic tables/chairs etc.
area adjacent to the beach has some shops, restaurants and hotels.
If you want to have a nice dinner in that area, I recommend Le Venise restaurant. See my review here on TA.
