Satakunta (Swedish: Satakunda, Latin: Finnia Septentrionalis or Satagundia) is a region (maakunta / landskap) of Finland, part of the former Western Finland Province. It borders the regions of Southwest Finland, Pirkanmaa, Southern Ostrobothnia and Ostrobothnia. The capital city of the region is Pori. The name of the region literally means Hundred. The historical province of the same name was a larger area within Finland, covering modern Satakunta as well as much of Pirkanmaa.

Old Rauma is extremely picturesque. It is full of wooden houses, narrow streets with cobblestone surfaces and charming cafeterias or restaurants.
Remember to visit at least Old Town Hall Museum, Shipowner's Home Museum Marela, Seaman's Home Museum Kirsti, Rauma Art Museum and Ruins of the Church of the Holy Trinity.
I think that Old Rauma and Kylmapihlaja Lighthouse Island are the most important sights in Rauma. Our family really loved walking in Old Rauma.

Mausoleum with an interesting story - nothing political this time. Great frescoes painted and repainted by one of Finland's greatest artists. In the middle of Käppärä cemetary.

This church is certainly one of the more monumental historical buildings in Rauma, a town better known for its quaint timber architecture. It is set across a beautiful little stream from the rest of the Old Town, the banks of which are covered with ferns and wildflowers in Summer. The churchyard is filled with luxuriant green grass. I suppose it must have a very different feel in the dead of Winter. Apart from that, it has a thick belfry and attractive stonework. We found it pleasant, but a short visit will probably suffice for most visitors.

This church makes an excellent starting point for a walk round Pori. The interior is very interesting. Outside there's memorial park dedicated to Finnish soldiers who fought in the war against Russia.

This a beautiful small museum: the rooms and Exhibitions are beautiful and captivating. The museum is not trying cover it all, but it certainly gives fascinating glimpses to history Rauma seafaring and seafarers in a nice way. We really enjoyed seeing this cosy and interesting museum!

The rooms of this house museum are full of period furniture and other decorations, giving a clear picture of the life of the wealthy of the late 1900s. Special features: decorative tile stoves, period costumes. During our visit was a special exhibition of regional folk hats from all over Europe.

This is a nice place for a picnic or just for a walk.
Also festival area (Pori Jazz, Porispere, etc)
There is a little beach for swimming, but I don't recommend to swim in Kokemäenjoki, it is quite polluted.
In the park there is also little lakes and river where you can feed birds. Some other animals are brought there beginning of summer (like goats, chickens and exotic birds).
You can also enjoy the view: Other side the river is beautiful Eteläranta area.

If you go to Pori, then go to this fascinating museum- apart from the fact that it is an excellent conversion of a 19th Century warehoudse into a 21st century museum display - it also encapsulates the development of the city of Pori through the rise of industrial entrepreneurship by the Rosenlew family- and you will not be bored- simply because the collections of material are so fgood- from paper to cardboard - from threshers to fridges- and plenty of detail in well laid out displays...and also shows what happened to Finnish industry as globalisation takes hold at the end of 20th century!
